General
For server On February 2, 2021 PT, we will stop selling new licenses for our server products and cease new feature development in our server product line. Server customers will have access to maintenance and support for an additional three years, ending February 2, 2024 PT. We will also increase the price of maintenance for existing server licenses, which allows us to ensure the security and maintenance of our server platform while providing you with the opportunity to run a free cloud migration trial. For Data Center Even with three years to prepare for these changes, we understand that not every customer will be ready to make the switch from our server products to our cloud products. For these customers, we'll continue to offer our self-managed enterprise edition, Data Center. In addition to continued investment in new features, we’ll look to make using cloud and Data Center together easier for you and your users through a more unified administration experience and improved integrations between the two offerings. To reflect these investments and accelerate further innovation, we will increase the price of our Data Center subscriptions. Exceptions

As an Atlassian customer, you’re an important member of our community. Some of you have been with us for over a decade, and as your needs have evolved so have we. Today, the majority of you are already benefitting from the advantages of cloud, like streamlined administration, instant scalability, and quicker time to value. In fact, over 90% of you start with Atlassian cloud products, with more server customers making the switch every day. From staying ahead of the latest regulatory and security requirements to expanding our ecosystem with a new development platform and introducing flexible plans, we’ve continuously invested in our cloud tools so that your teams can work flexibly and innovate quickly. We’ve also taken our cloud offerings to the next level by building a modern, intuitive, and unified experience across all our products to transform how your teams collaborate. We’re leveraging automation and machine learning to reduce the time spent on repetitive tasks and enhancing our integrations to power seamless workflows across your teams. But, when it comes to our mission of unleashing the potential of every team – including yours – you need us to move faster and go even further. In response, we’ve decided to simplify our server and Data Center offerings in order to sharpen our focus as a cloud-first company. While these changes are in service of your organization’s long-term success, we know the transition will be hard for some of you. So in the spirit of “open company, no B.S.”, we want to share everything you need to know about these changes and the support we will offer you along the way. |
Overview As of February 2, 2021 PT, we will no longer sell new licenses for Atlassian’s server products. If you’re an existing customer, you can continue to renew your licenses and receive maintenance and support for up to three years. We’ll also offer loyalty discounts for eligible customers to upgrade to our cloud or Data Center products at a lower price. For your support and maintenance Between February 2, 2021 PT and February 2, 2022 PT, we will continue to provide support (i.e. database, browser, Java) and bug fixes on server products. After February 2, 2022 PT, we will only provide security bug-fixes for critical vulnerabilities until the end of support. On February 2, 2024 PT, your products will reach end of support. After that date, we will not release any further product updates. Regular security updates help protect your business from threats and vulnerabilities, so we strongly recommend migrating to cloud or Data Center before the end of support date. For your server apps Starting May 1, 2021 PT, we will stop accepting new server app submissions for the Atlassian Marketplace. If you’re an existing server customer, you’ll be able to continue purchasing server apps until February 2, 2023 PT. App renewals in the final year will be prorated with an end date of February 2, 2024 PT to match your server product(s) end of support date. |

Migrate to cloud (recommended) By partnering with Atlassian on their move to cloud, customers have seen lower costs, reduced risk of downtime and security issues, and can focus on innovation over maintenance. To quickly compare costs and see your recommended path to cloud based on your server products, use our personalized recommendation tool. Migrate to Data Center For server customers who can’t move to cloud yet due to company mandate or need a multi-year transition, we recommend migrating to Data Center. To understand the benefits of Data Center and how to plan for a migration, start by visiting our migration center. With three years of server support and continued investment in Data Center, you have time to make your decision and develop a migration plan based on your requirements and our roadmap. |
We know that our business was built on passionate and dedicated server champions – those of you who’ve been with us for years, introduced our server products to your organizations, and have been solving challenges with our server products since the beginning. We also know there is still a lot more we need to learn from server champions like you and the complex requirements of your organization. If you’re interested in working closely with us, then we encourage you to become a part of our private server champion community to help us shape the future of our cloud offering. |

For all other licenses As of February 2, 2022 PT, you won’t be able to upgrade or downgrade user tiers for your server products or apps. Support for affected server products and apps will end on February 2, 2024 PT. After this date:
Before this date, we strongly recommend migrating to cloud or Data Center. |
As part of the end of server sale and support, we’re including several Atlassian-built apps and new functionality with a Data Center subscription:
If you don't yet use the app: After February 2, 2021 PT, server customers can no longer purchase or request a quote for any of these apps. These apps (or the equivalent native functionality) will only be available by moving to cloud or Data Center. If you have a valid quote, we will honor it for licenses purchased after this date. If you have an existing server app license: Server customers with existing app licenses can continue to renew support and maintenance for these apps until the end of support date. |
Yes, you can renew Priority Support up until the server end of support date on February 2, 2024 PT. |
What’s changing There are a few things that are the same as commercial license customers:
There are also a few things that are different:
What we recommend In cloud, we offer free plans that give you exactly what you need to hit the ground running and grow at your own pace. For customers on Starter licenses, these are a great option to consider moving to using our free cloud migration assistants and migration resources. |
Yes, you can request a refund or exchange of your server license up to 30 days after the original date of purchase. After the 30-day period, exchanges or refunds will not be available. To request a refund or exchange within 30 days of payment, just contact our Customer Advocate team. |
You can continue to use the automatic renewal function to renew your server license software maintenance annually until support ends on February 2, 2024 PT. Automated renewals will be prorated to match this date. |
Yes, you will still be able to purchase new licenses or renew existing licenses for Fisheye and Crucible. These products are in basic maintenance mode, meaning we will no longer be developing new features for them. We’ll continue to provide licensed customers with technical support and updates in the form of maintenance releases focused on security and bug fixes, and platform updates. |
For existing customers on Jira Core Server, you can choose to move to either Jira Core Cloud or Jira Software Data Center. If you aren’t sure which is right for you, answer a few short questions about your current environment and requirements, and we’ll help you find the best option. Moving to cloud If you’d like to migrate your Jira Core Server instance to cloud, we offer a free Jira Cloud Migration Assistant. Moving to Data Center If you’d prefer to remain self-managed, you can move from Jira Core Server to Jira Software Data Center. Jira Software includes everything that comes with Jira Core, plus Agile functionality, developer tool integrations, and more. In other words, anything you do in Jira Core, you can do in Jira Software. For example, teams can create Business Projects in Jira Software just like they can in Jira Core. To do this, you’d just need to make sure to select "Business Project” when creating a project in Jira Software if you want it to be a Core-type project (see here). Moving to Jira Software Data Center is straightforward. If you download Jira Software Data Center onto the same server as your Jira Core Server license, then you can delete Jira Core and your projects will already be in Jira Software with no need to transfer or migrate anything. All you need to do is license Jira Software, enable users, and start using it. If you choose to move from Jira Core Server to Jira Software Data Center, you will be eligible for a loyalty discount. |
Data Center
Atlassian has no plans at this time to end of life Data Center products. We understand that some customers have have business requirements that might prevent you from operating in cloud. For these customers, we’ll continue to offer Data Center and invest in new capabilities shared through our Data Center roadmap. We will continue to build out the roadmap beyond the timelines currently published when we have new updates to share. We recommend that customers who have requirements that currently prevent them from moving to the cloud watch our cloud roadmap to find out whether we’re working on the feature they need. If the feature a you need won’t be delivered before the end of support for Atlassian server products, we recommend moving to or staying on Data Center. |
We know Data Center is a pivotal step in the long-term path to cloud for our customers who can’t move due to company mandate or require a multi-year transition. By sharpening our focus, we can deliver the features and integrations you need to meet your business goals while remaining on a self-managed solution. Key areas where we are continuing to invest and innovate include:

We plan to make Bamboo Data Center available in the near future. As details emerge, we will notify current Bamboo Server customers and continually update this FAQ. In the meantime, you can remain on Bamboo Server, wait to upgrade to Bamboo Data Center, or migrate to Bitbucket Pipelines. If you need an on-premise CI/CD tool, Bamboo Data Center will integrate with both Bitbucket Data Center and Bitbucket Cloud. For details on how to connect Bamboo to Bitbucket Cloud, visit our documentation. If you want to make the switch to a cloud-based CI/CD tool, Bitbucket Pipelines is Bitbucket Cloud’s native CI/CD tool. In addition to the new functionality and support offerings we’re announcing as part of this change, Atlassian Data Center helps large enterprises get work done at scale. Atlassian Data Center, our self-managed edition, offers enterprise-grade capabilities in the following areas:
Data Center is available for Jira Software, Confluence, Bitbucket, Jira Service Management, Crowd, and coming soon to Bamboo. |

As part of these changes, we’re including several of our most powerful apps and new functionality with your Data Center subscription. If you already use these apps, you’ll no longer have to renew your subscription after February 2, 2021 PT. However, please note you will need to use the methods outlined below to unlock the functionality before your existing app license expires. To unlock this functionality, you’ll need to either upgrade to a Data Center product version with the app included, or install a compatible version of the app at no cost. The apps will not require a license, and functionality will unlock when the app starts on a compatible Data Center subscription. Which methods are available varies by app: Advanced Roadmaps (formerly Portfolio for Jira):
Team Calendars for Confluence:
Analytics for Confluence:
Insight - Asset Management:
Insight Discovery:
*For additional details on how Insight apps with work with Jira Software Data Center, refer to the FAQ for Will Insight - Asset Management and Insight Discovery work with Jira Software Data Center? |
Yes, but details will depend on a few factors:
Scenario 1: You have a valid (paid) app license If you’ve purchased a subscription for either of these apps and it expires after Febraury 2, 2021 PT, you can continue to use the app(s) until the subscription expiry date, regardless of which Jira Software Data Center version you’re on. Once the subscription expires, if you’re on Jira Software Data Center version 8.15 or higher, you’ll need a Data Center subscription to Jira Service Management on the same instance to use the apps with Jira Software Data Center. If you’re on Jira Software Data Center version 8.14 and below, you can switch to using the free version of the apps as described in scenario 2. Scenario 2: You use the free app version Jira Software Data Center customers on version 8.14 and below will not need a license for Jira Service Management to access the apps, and will be able to install a no-cost version of the apps from Marketplace as of February 2, 2021. These apps will be available for two years, and will only receive critical updates. During that time, if you choose to upgrade to Jira Software Data Center version 8.15 or higher, you’ll need a license for Jira Service Management Data Center to get your users access to the Insight - Asset Management and Insight Discovery functionality. After two years (February 2, 2023) we plan to remove these apps from our Marketplace, after which point you will need to have a subscription to Jira Service Management Data Center (or move to Jira Service Management Cloud Premium or Enterprise plans) as described in scenario 3. Scenario 3: You have a subscription to Jira Service Management Data Center If you have a subscription to Jira Service Management Data Center on the same instance as Jira Software Data Center, your Jira Software users can access the Insight Discovery and Insight - Asset Management functionality. |

Over the last few years, we’ve made significant investments in our cloud platform’s security, extensibility, product functionality, scalability, and more to meet the current and future needs of our customers. But there’s lots more on the way. A major reason we’re doing this is to enable us to accelerate our cloud innovation and provide you with a world-class cloud experience. To get a bird’s eye view of what’s shipped most recently and what’s on the way, visit our cloud roadmap. |
For all customers With three years before the end of support, you have plenty of time to evaluate our cloud offerings, coordinate internally, and prepare – there’s no need to act immediately. If you can’t yet move because you’re waiting for a particular feature or compliance certification, we’re committed to delivering new features and improvements faster in cloud, and you may find we’re delivering on your requirements soon. Take a look at our cloud roadmap and the Trust Center for additional information on compliance and security for Atlassian cloud products, and how our teams are expanding coverage to help you meet compliance needs. For customers that need data residency We’ve heard your feedback, and know data residency, offered with our cloud Enterprise plan, is a requirement for many of you to move to cloud. We don’t currently offer the Enterprise plan to customers with fewer than 1,000 cloud users, but we're looking at options for supporting customers that require Enterprise on smaller tiers and plan to provide an update in the near future. If this applies to you, we've created a tracking ticket (CLOUD-11064) that you can follow for updates on the availability of Enterprise at lower user tiers. You can also keep an eye on our cloud roadmap to see the latest updates, including data residency for additional locations, data residency for apps, and more. For government customers Atlassian is committed to helping government teams get things done faster, easier, and with greater security. We are also currently putting our cloud products through the FedRAMP compliance process. |
Apps
For customers After February 2, 2021 PT, server customers can no longer purchase or request a quote for any of the apps we are including with Data Center as part of these changes. For all other Marketplace apps, existing server customers will be able to continue purchasing apps until February 2, 2023 PT. Ongoing app renewals are expected to be prorated with an end date of February 2, 2024 PT to match your server products' end of support date. For Marketplace Partners and developers For Marketplace Partners and developers, we will stop accepting new server app submissions on the Atlassian Marketplace from May 1, 2021 PT onwards. |
You can request a refund or exchange of your server app license up to 30 days after the original date of purchase. After the 30-day period, exchanges or refunds will not be available. For more details on app refunds and returns, visit the Atlassian Marketplace Terms of Use Section 2.3. To request a refund or exchange within 30 days of payment, contact our Customer Advocate Team. |
In the past year, the Atlassian Marketplace has seen over 440 new cloud apps come to market, with more every day. We are continuing to work with our Marketplace Partners to bring existing server apps to cloud, as well as new apps unique to cloud. Start with our app auditing documentation for best practices around auditing, assessing, and migrating your apps and app data. You can also reference this list of Marketplace apps that are compatible with server, Data Center, and cloud, with documentation provided by Marketplace Partners on notable feature differences and instructions for how to migrate from server or Data Center to cloud. If your server app is not yet available for cloud, it’s worth reaching out to the Marketplace Partner via their support desk to ask if they are currently building the app. |
When moving from server to Data Center, you’ll need to move to Data Center app subscriptions if a Data Center app is available. Data Center apps undergo a rigorous performance and technical review process, established and maintained by Atlassian, to verify their ability to perform at a standard suited for Data Center environments. To learn more about the pricing and licensing of Data Center approved apps, visit our Data Center app FAQs. |
If a server app has a Data Center approved version available, you will need to purchase a Data Center subscription in order to keep using it. If there is no Data Center version available, you can continue to use the server version of the app, though it comes with some risk as the app has not received an architecture review or been performance tested to ensure it can scale in a Data Center environment. If a Data Center version becomes available, you will then need to purchase a Data Center subscription in order to keep using it. |
