What changes are you making? Show

For server

On February 2, 2021 PT, we will stop selling new licenses for our server products and cease new feature development in our server product line. Server customers will have access to maintenance and support for an additional three years, ending February 2, 2024 PT. We will also increase the price of maintenance for existing server licenses, which allows us to ensure the security and maintenance of our server platform while providing you with the opportunity to run a free cloud migration trial.

For Data Center

Even with three years to prepare for these changes, we understand that not every customer will be ready to make the switch from our server products to our cloud products. For these customers, we'll continue to offer our self-managed enterprise edition, Data Center. In addition to continued investment in new features, we’ll look to make using cloud and Data Center together easier for you and your users through a more unified administration experience and improved integrations between the two offerings. To reflect these investments and accelerate further innovation, we will increase the price of our Data Center subscriptions.

Exceptions

  • You will still be able to purchase new licenses for Fisheye and Crucible, which remain in basic maintenance mode.
  • We plan to make Bamboo Data Center available in the future. As details emerge, we will notify current Bamboo Server customers and continually update this FAQ. Until further notice, you will still be able to purchase new licenses for Bamboo Server.
Why are you making these changes? Show

As an Atlassian customer, you’re an important member of our community. Some of you have been with us for over a decade, and as your needs have evolved so have we. Today, the majority of you are already benefitting from the advantages of cloud, like streamlined administration, instant scalability, and quicker time to value. In fact, over 90% of you start with Atlassian cloud products, with more server customers making the switch every day.

From staying ahead of the latest regulatory and security requirements to expanding our ecosystem with a new development platform and introducing flexible plans, we’ve continuously invested in our cloud tools so that your teams can work flexibly and innovate quickly.

We’ve also taken our cloud offerings to the next level by building a modern, intuitive, and unified experience across all our products to transform how your teams collaborate. We’re leveraging automation and machine learning to reduce the time spent on repetitive tasks and enhancing our integrations to power seamless workflows across your teams. 

But, when it comes to our mission of unleashing the potential of every team – including yours – you need us to move faster and go even further. In response, we’ve decided to simplify our server and Data Center offerings in order to sharpen our focus as a cloud-first company. While these changes are in service of your organization’s long-term success, we know the transition will be hard for some of you. So in the spirit of “open company, no B.S.”, we want to share everything you need to know about these changes and the support we will offer you along the way.

What does end of sale and support mean? Show

For your server products

As of February 2, 2021 PT, we will no longer sell new licenses for Atlassian’s server products. If you have an existing server license, you’ll have three years to choose to move to cloud, migrate to Data Center, or continue to use your server products unsupported. During this time, we’ll provide you with tools and resources to help you transition with ease.

Between February 2, 2021 PT and February 2, 2022 PT, we will continue to provide support (i.e. database, browser, Java) and bug fixes on server products. After February 2, 2022 PT, we will only provide security bug-fixes for critical vulnerabilities until the end of support.

On February 2, 2024 PT, your products will reach end of support. After that date, we will not release any further product updates. Regular security updates help protect your organization from threats and vulnerabilities, so we strongly recommend moving to cloud or upgrading to Data Center before the end of support date.

For your server apps

Starting May 1, 2021 PT, we will stop accepting new server app submissions for the Atlassian Marketplace.

If you’re an existing server customer, you’ll be able to continue purchasing server apps until February 2, 2023 PT. App renewals in the final year will be prorated with an end date of February 2, 2024 PT to match your server product(s) end of support date.

Which products does the end of sale and support apply to? Show

The end of sale and support apply to:

  • Jira Software Server
  • Jira Core Server
  • Jira Service Desk Server
  • Confluence Server
  • Bitbucket Server
  • Crowd Server
  • Bamboo Server
  • Atlassian-built apps*
  • Atlassian Marketplace Partner server apps*

Exceptions:

  • You will still be able to purchase new licenses for Fisheye and Crucible, which remain in basic maintenance mode.
  • We plan to make Bamboo Data Center available in the near future. As details emerge, we will notify current Bamboo Server customers and continually update this FAQ. Until further notice, you will still be able to purchase new licenses for Bamboo Server.

*Please note that the last date to purchase apps will depend on a few factors, including whether you’re a new or existing customer, whether the app is built by Atlassian or a Marketplace Partner, and whether the app will be included with a Data Center subscription. You can see a timeline for when each change will go into effect here.

Will server still receive enhancements or bug fixes? Show

Between February 2, 2021 PT and February 2, 2022 PT, we will continue to provide support (i.e. database, browser, Java) and bug fixes for server products.

After February 2, 2022 PT, we will only provide security bug-fixes for critical vulnerabilities until the end of support date on February 2, 2024 PT. After that date, your server products will reach end of support, and we will not release any further product updates.

Migrate to Data Center

For server customers who can’t move to cloud yet due to company mandate or need a multi-year transition, we recommend migrating to Data Center. To understand the benefits of Data Center and how to plan for a migration, start by visiting our migration center.

Continue on server or Data Center

With three years of server support and continued investment in Data Center, you have time to make your decision and develop a migration plan based on your requirements and our roadmap.

Server

When do new server license sales and quotes end? Show

As of February 2, 2021 PT, you can no longer purchase or request a quote for a new server product. We will honor valid quotes for licenses purchased after this date.

When do upgrades and downgrades of user tiers end? Show

For Starter licenses

Moving from a Starter to a full license is considered a new sale, which means that as of February 2, 2021 PT (the end of new license sales), you won’t be able to upgrade your Server Starter license to a full license. After that point, upgrading will only be available by moving to either cloud or Data Center.

For all other licenses

As of February 2, 2022 PT, you won’t be able to upgrade or downgrade user tiers for your server products or apps. After that point, upgrading or downgrading user tiers will only be available by moving to either cloud or Data Center.

Exceptions

  • You will still be able to upgrade or downgrade user tiers for Fisheye and Crucible.
  • You will still be able to upgrade or downgrade Bamboo until we release a Data Center version. After that, you won’t be able to upgrade or downgrade your Bamboo Server license.
When will support for affected products and apps end? Show

Support for affected server products and apps will end on February 2, 2024 PT. After this date:

  • You will not be able to renew your server support or maintenance.
  • Atlassian and Marketplace Partners will no longer provide technical support for any issues, security updates, or bug fixes for critical vulnerabilities.

Before this date, we strongly recommend migrating to cloud or Data Center.

What happens to my server apps you're adding to Data Center? Show

As part of the end of server sale and support, we’re including several Atlassian-built apps and new functionality with a Data Center subscription:

After February 2, 2021 PT, server customers can no longer purchase or request a quote for any of these apps. These apps (or the equivalent native functionality) will only be available by moving to cloud or Data Center. If you have a valid quote, we will honor it for licenses purchased after this date.

Can I continue to receive Priority Support while on server? Show

Yes, you can renew Priority Support up until the server end of support date on February 2, 2024 PT.

How will this affect Starter license customers? Show

Upgrading user tiers

If you want to upgrade your Starter license to a higher user tier, you will need to do that before February 1, 2021 PT. After that date, upgrading user tiers will only be possible by moving to cloud or Data Center.

Maintenance

You will have access to maintenance and support from the Atlassian Community until February 2, 2024 PT.

Our recommendation

In cloud, we offer free plans that give you exactly what you need to hit the ground running and grow at your own pace. For customers on Starter licenses, these are a great option to consider moving to using our free cloud migration assistants and migration resources.

Can I refund my recent server purchase and choose cloud? Show

Yes, you can request a refund or exchange of your server license up to 30 days after the original date of purchase. After the 30-day period, exchanges or refunds will not be available.

To request a refund or exchange within 30 days of payment, just contact our Customer Advocate team.

Will my automated renewals still work? Show

You can continue to use the automatic renewal function to renew your server license software maintenance annually until support ends on February 2, 2024 PT. Automated renewals will be prorated to match this date.

Will you still sell Fisheye and Crucible? Show

Yes, you will still be able to purchase new licenses or renew existing licenses for Fisheye and Crucible. These products are in basic maintenance mode, meaning we will no longer be developing new features for them. We’ll continue to provide licensed customers with technical support and updates in the form of maintenance releases focused on security and bug fixes, and platform updates.

Data Center

What is the future of Data Center? Show

Even with three years to prepare for these changes, we understand that not every customer will be ready to make the switch from our server products to our cloud products. And, some of you have requirements that might prevent you from ever operating in the cloud.

For these customers, we'll continue to offer our robust self-managed enterprise edition, Atlassian Data Center. This will include new capabilities and integrations that make it easier to use our cloud and Data Center products together, like unifying the admin experience for areas such as user management.

We are also strengthening Atlassian Data Center by making some of our most powerful apps available natively and offering Priority Support with Data Center subscriptions for most user tiers. To support this continued innovation, we will increase the price of Data Center subscriptions on February 2, 2021 PT.

What improvements are you making to Data Center? Show

We know Data Center is a pivotal step in the long-term path to cloud for our customers who can’t move due to company mandate or require a multi-year transition. By sharpening our focus, we can deliver the features and integrations you need to meet your business goals while remaining on a self-managed solution.

Key areas where we are continuing to invest and innovate include:

  • Cloud integrations: We’re building the integrations with cloud you need to make using cloud and Data Center together easier for you and your users, and build a bridge to the cloud when you’re ready.
  • New native functionality: To meet your demand for better collaboration and increased insights, we’re including some of our most powerful Atlassian apps and new features. Starting February 2, 2021 PT, your Data Center subscription will include access to:
  • Priority Support: Starting February 2, 2021 PT, Priority Support will be included with a Data Center subscription to Jira Software, Jira Service Desk, Confluence, and Crowd, as well as Bitbucket for customers with 251 or more users.

When will Bamboo Data Center be available? Show

We plan to make Bamboo Data Center available in the near future. As details emerge, we will notify current Bamboo Server customers and continually update this FAQ.

In the meantime, you can remain on Bamboo Server, wait to upgrade to Bamboo Data Center, or migrate to Bitbucket Pipelines.

If you need an on-premise CI/CD tool, Bamboo Data Center will integrate with both Bitbucket Data Center and Bitbucket Cloud. For details on how to connect Bamboo to Bitbucket Cloud, visit our documentation.

If you want to make the switch to a cloud-based CI/CD tool, Bitbucket Pipelines is Bitbucket Cloud’s native CI/CD tool. For details on how to get started with Bitbucket Pipelines, visit our documentation.

What are the benefits of Data Center? Show

  • Advanced Roadmaps (formerly Portfolio for Jira): You will be able to upgrade to a new version* of Jira Software Data Center, which will be available by February 2, 2021 PT. If you remain on an older version, you can download a compatible version of the app from the Marketplace at no cost after February 2, 2021 PT.
  • Team Calendars for Confluence: You will be able to upgrade to a new version* of Confluence Data Center, which will be available by February 2, 2021 PT. If you remain on an older version, you can download a compatible version of the app from the Marketplace at no cost after February 2, 2021 PT.
  • Analytics for Confluence: You will need to upgrade to a new version* of Confluence Data Center, which will be available by February 2, 2021 PT.
  • Insight - Asset Management: You will need to download a compatible version of the app from the Marketplace at no cost after February 2, 2021 PT. We will update you when this functionality will be included in a new version.
  • Insight Discovery: You will need to download a compatible version of the app from the Marketplace at no cost after February 2, 2021 PT. We will update you when this functionality will be included in a new version.

If you already own one or more of these apps, you will no longer have to pay for it after February 2, 2021 PT.

With three years before the end of support, you have plenty of time to evaluate our cloud offerings, coordinate internally, and prepare – there’s no need to act immediately.

If you can’t yet move because you’re waiting for a particular feature or compliance certification, we’re committed to delivering new features and improvements faster in cloud, and you may find we’re delivering on your requirements soon.

Apps

How will the server end of sale affect my apps? Show

For customers

After February 2, 2021 PT, server customers can no longer purchase or request a quote for any of the apps we are including with Data Center as part of these changes.

For all other Marketplace apps, existing server customers will be able to continue purchasing apps until February 2, 2023 PT. Ongoing app renewals are expected to be prorated with an end date of February 2, 2024 PT to match your server products' end of support date.

For Marketplace Partners and developers

For Marketplace Partners and developers, we will stop accepting new server app submissions on the Atlassian Marketplace from May 1, 2021 PT onwards.

Can I refund my recent server app purchase? Show

You can request a refund or exchange of your server app license up to 30 days after the original date of purchase. After the 30-day period, exchanges or refunds will not be available. For more details on app refunds and returns, visit the Atlassian Marketplace Terms of Use Section 2.3.

Can Data Center customers use server apps? Show

If a server app has a Data Center approved version available, you will need to purchase a Data Center subscription in order to keep using it.

If there is no Data Center version available, you can continue to use the server version of the app, though it comes with some risk as the app has not received an architecture review or been performance tested to ensure it can scale in a Data Center environment.

If a Data Center version becomes available, you will then need to purchase a Data Center subscription in order to keep using it.

Are my current apps available in cloud? Show

In the past year, the Atlassian Marketplace has seen over 440 new cloud apps come to market, with more every day. We are continuing to work with our Marketplace Partners to bring existing server apps to cloud, as well as new apps unique to cloud.

Data Center apps undergo a rigorous performance and technical review process, established and maintained by Atlassian, to verify their ability to perform at a standard suited for Data Center environments.

How do I create a quote for cloud or Data Center? Show

You can create an obligation-free quote with our quote and order form, which allows you to save a price quote for later or pay for your software immediately.

Note that only quotes submitted through our online form are considered valid. Screenshots of the shopping cart are not the same as an official quote.

How do I renew my existing server maintenance? Show

Visit our quote and order form and click Renew.

From there, you can renew a product that you’re associated with. You can also search for licenses using the Support Entitlement Number (SEN) and the email address of any current contact of the product you’d like to renew.

What’s available for Academic, Community, and Open Source? Show

As of February 2, 2021 PT, we will no longer offer new Atlassian Academic, Community, or Open Source server licenses. Existing server customers will have access to maintenance and support for an additional three years, ending February 2, 2024 PT.

But this isn’t the end of your time with Atlassian – we’re happy to offer eligible organizations discounted prices in both cloud and Data Center.

Existing server customers who pay for Priority Support beyond February 2, 2021 PT will continue to have access.

As of February 2, 2021 PT, Priority Support will be included with your Data Center subscriptions for Jira Software, Jira Service Desk, Confluence, and Crowd Data Center, as well as Bitbucket Data Center for customers with 251 or more users. 

If you already own Priority Support, you will no longer have to pay for it after February 2, 2021 PT.

What discounts are available if I move to Data Center? Show

Effective February 2, 2021 PT, we will discontinue server to Data Center upgrade credits and replace them with our Data Center loyalty discount. This discount helps ease your transition to Data Center by offering existing server customers a multi-year discount on Data Center subscriptions. You can see your actual costs to move from server to Data Center here.
