Support for Atlassian Server products ends on February 2, 2024, but you can stay supported and benefit from continued innovation by migrating to our Cloud or Data Center products. We know this is a big change, so we’re here to help with answers to all your questions and recommendations for what to do next.

What does end of support mean?

End of sale for new licenses

As of February 2, 2021 PT, we will no longer sell new licenses for our Server products and will cease new feature development in our Server product line.

No new feature development

As of February 15, 2022 PT, we will only provide security bug fixes for critical vulnerabilities until the end of support.

End of support

As of February 2, 2024 PT, your products will reach the end of support.

What’s the timeline of changes?

This change won’t happen overnight – we know it takes careful thought to evaluate your options and choose what’s right for you. Start by reviewing what’s changing and when.

Exceptions:

  • Fisheye and Crucible: You can still purchase new licenses for Fisheye and Crucible, which remain in basic maintenance mode.
  • Bamboo Server: September 1, 2021 PT, will be the last day to purchase new Server licenses. After that date, we will cease new feature development for Bamboo Server and will end support for this product on Feb. 2, 2024. To learn more about Bamboo Data Center, visit our homepage.

  • Jira Software Data Center: Now includes Advanced Roadmaps (formerly Portfolio for Jira)
  • Confluence Data Center: Now includes Team Calendars for Confluence and Analytics for Confluence
  • Jira Service Management Data Center: Now includes Insight - Asset Management and Insight Discovery

What this means for customers with Server licenses:

  • If you don't yet use the app: As of February 2, 2021 PT, you can no longer purchase or request a quote for any of these apps. These apps (or the equivalent native functionality) will only be available by moving to Cloud or Data Center.
  • If you have an existing license for one of these apps: You can continue to renew support and maintenance for these apps until the end of support date.

You will no longer be able to upgrade or downgrade user tiers for your Server products or apps. Changing user tiers will only be available by moving to either Cloud or Data Center.

Exceptions:

  • Starter licenses: Moving from a Starter to a full license is considered a new sale, which means that as of February 2, 2021 PT (the end of new license sales), you won’t be able to upgrade your Server Starter license to a full license. After that point, upgrading will only be available by moving to either Cloud or Data Center.
  • Fisheye and Crucible: You can still upgrade or downgrade user tiers for Fisheye and Crucible.

Support and bug fixes will no longer be available for your Server products and apps, and any renewals will be prorated to match this date. To stay secure and benefit from continued innovation, we strongly recommend migrating to Cloud or Data Center before the end of support date.

After the end of support date, Atlassian and Marketplace Partners will no longer provide technical support for any issues, security updates, or bug fixes for critical vulnerabilities. Regular security updates help protect your business from threats and vulnerabilities, so we recommend moving to our Cloud or Data Center products before the end of support date.

In most cases, we recommend moving to our Cloud products as soon as possible. By partnering with Atlassian on their move to Cloud, customers have seen lower costs, increased reliability, uptime, and security, and can focus on innovation over maintenance.

For customers with business requirements that prevent you from operating in Cloud, we also continue to offer Data Center.

Are there any changes to Data Center? Show

Overview of changes

We know Data Center is a pivotal step in the long-term path to Cloud for our customers who can’t move yet due to company mandate or require a multi-year transition. To meet your demand for better collaboration and increased insights, we’re including some of our most powerful Atlassian apps and new features. Starting February 2, 2021 PT, Data Center subscriptions include access to:

  • Jira Software Data Center: Advanced Roadmaps (formerly Portfolio for Jira)
  • Confluence Data Center: Team Calendars for Confluence and Analytics for Confluence
  • Jira Service Management Data Center: Insight - Asset Management and Insight Discovery
  • Priority Support: Priority Support will be included with a Data Center subscription to Jira Software, Jira Service Management, Confluence, and Crowd. It will also be included with a Bitbucket Data Center subscription for customers with 251 or more users (the 500 user tier and above).

We’ve also recently introduced the newest addition to our Data Center product line, Bamboo Data Center. Priority Support will be included with a Bamboo Data Center subscription for customers with 100 or more agents.

Accessing the new native functionality

If you already use these apps, you’ll no longer have to renew your subscription after February 2, 2021 PT. However, please note you will need to use the methods outlined below to unlock the functionality before your existing app license expires.

To unlock this functionality, you’ll need to either upgrade to a Data Center product version with the app included, or install a compatible version of the app at no cost. The apps will not require a license, and functionality will unlock when the app starts on a compatible Data Center subscription.

Which methods are available varies by app:

  • Advanced Roadmaps (formerly Portfolio for Jira):
    • This will be included in Jira Software Data Center version 8.15.
    • You can also install a compatible version of the app at no cost.
  • Team Calendars for Confluence:
    • This will be included in Confluence Data Center version 7.11.
    • You can also install a compatible version of the app at no cost.
  • Analytics for Confluence:
    • You will need to upgrade to Confluence Data Center version 7.11.
    • This will not be available to install as an app.
  • Insight - Asset Management*:
    • This will be included in Jira Service Management Data Center version 4.15.
    • You can also install a compatible version of the app at no cost.
  • Insight Discovery*:
    • You can install a compatible version of the app at no cost.

*You may also be able to use the Insight apps with Jira Software Data Center.

For server

Effective February 2, 2021 PT, we stopped selling new licenses for our server products and ceased new feature development in our server product line. Existing server customers have access to maintenance and support for an additional three years, ending February 2, 2024 PT.

For Data Center

We’ll continue to offer Data Center and invest in new capabilities shared through our Data Center roadmap. In addition to continued investment in new features, we’ll look to make using cloud and Data Center together easier for you and your users through a more unified administration experience and improved integrations between the two offerings.

With three years of server support and continued investment in Data Center, you have time to make your decision and develop a migration plan based on your requirements and our roadmap.

How long will you continue to offer Data Center? Show

Atlassian has no plans at this time to end of life Data Center products. We understand that some customers have have business requirements that might prevent you from operating in cloud.

For these customers, we’ll continue to offer Data Center and invest in new capabilities shared through our Data Center roadmap. We will continue to build out the roadmap beyond the timelines currently published when we have new updates to share.

We recommend that customers who have requirements that currently prevent them from moving to the cloud watch our cloud roadmap to find out whether we’re working on the feature they need. If the feature a you need won’t be delivered before the end of support for Atlassian server products, we recommend moving to or staying on Data Center.

What if I can't move to cloud yet? Show

For all customers

With three years before the end of support, you have plenty of time to evaluate our cloud offerings, coordinate internally, and prepare – there’s no need to act immediately.

If you can’t yet move because you’re waiting for a particular feature or compliance certification, we’re committed to delivering new features and improvements faster in cloud, and you may find we’re delivering on your requirements soon.

For customers that need data residency

Available today: Currently, data residency is available today as part of our cloud Enterprise plan, which is best for our largest customers who also need additional administrative, security, and scale features.

Coming soon: We know having control over where your data is stored is a requirement for teams of all sizes. We’re excited to announce data residency will be included in our Standard and Premium cloud plans for Jira and Confluence by second half of 2021. Sign up for updates and learn more here.
