No-code automation

On Jira Cloud, no-code automation is available out of the box, and works seamlessly with popular tools like Slack, Microsoft Teams, Bitbucket, and GitHub, enhancing its utility across different platforms.

While Jira Software Data Center also supports automation, it requires the "Automation for Jira" plugin, which is bundled with the software.

Quick setup user management

The set up for Cloud instances is much faster than Server and Data Center. When an admin logs in, they can add team members and manage access easily.

Project trash

Projects can be trashed and can be restored up to 60 days from when they have been trashed. This reduces the pain of accidentally deleting a project and needing to go through customer support to restore the project.

Custom roles

Create custom-named roles and assign permissions in team-managed projects. You can also view and change associated permissions for clone, and delete the custom role.

Jira Mobile app

Stay in the loop on important projects or issues. Read, create, update, and delete issues and columns right from your mobile device. Access all your web views from roadmaps, boards, backlogs, and more, anytime and anywhere.

On Jira Cloud, you’re able to take advantage of real-time collaboration, integrations with other tools/apps, automation, and mobile application management (MAM). These capabilities are not available on the Jira Software Data Center mobile app.

Advanced security integrations

On Jira Cloud, Plans is available out-of-the-box and offers seamless integration with other cloud services.

Available for Data Center via the Advanced Roadmaps for Jira plugin, but lacks certain functionality, such as abstracted issue hierarchy, shared team capacities, issues dependences represented by lines, full-screen planning mode, and the ability to export plans as images. Learn more about Plans.

Summary, list, timeline, and calendar views

Summary view gives you an overall snapshot of your team’s work, including status overviews, workloads, and more.

List view combines the intuitive nature of spreadsheets with the power of Jira. Add, update, sort, filter, group, and rank items with blazing speed using inline editing.

Timeline view allows you to plan work, track progress, and map dependencies at a granular level within a single team or project.

Calendar view allows you to manage tasks across schedules to meet your deadlines. You can also see the duration of calendar items from start date to end date.

While none of these views are built-in to Jira Software Data Center, there is the opportunity to leverage similar features with limited functionality via the Advanced Roadmaps plugin.

AI-powered summaries

Generate efficient summaries of comment threads within a Jira ticket to highlight key context points, identify decisions made and pending action items, and condense lengthy discussions into digestible insights. 

You can also summarize content from Smart Links, such as Confluence pages and Google Docs.
