Description

What will you be responsible for

  • The development, testing and deployment of internally developed software to support the company 
  • 2nd and 3rd level technical support for internal systems

What is the team structure

  • You will report to the Order Management Team Lead (Sydney)
  • The role has no reports

What your performance will be measured on

  • The quality of your software code, measure on number of defects introduced, and supported application up-time
  • The timeliness of delivery on estimated project work
  • Your ability to collaborate effectively with team members in multiple geographies.

What you'll do

  • Developing services, business logic and supporting server-side code, primarily our online order system and customer facing portal 
  • Working with the analysts and system owners on requirements gathering and feature design
  • Thoroughly testing your own code to a production standard
  • Writing and maintaining automated tests for our supported systems
  • Creating technical designs for your development work
  • Supporting the internal systems in production, including analysing defects and production incidents 
  • Proactively increasing security, reliability and scalability of our systems
  • Reviewing code for peers and providing meaningful and constructive feedback
  • Actively working to suggest and implement improvements to the team's supported technologies
  • Supporting and improving the team's development processes and tools. Tools include: Bamboo, Maven, Git.
  • Participating in company initiatives such as 20% time and ShipIt! days

Required skills

  • 3+ years experience working with Java and J2EE technologies in a production environment
  • Deep understanding of how to build performant, decoupled, testable, maintainable code.
  • Solid experience in back end technologies like Spring, Hibernate, SQL and relational databases
  • Experience in the following broad technologies: XML, JSP, internet protocols, REST, JSON, JDBC and relational databases 
  • Experience in standards-compliant efficient HTML & CSS
  • Understanding of JavaScript and supporting libraries
  • Experience writing JUnit tests and functional tests
  • Experience working with source control, preferably git
  • Motivated self starter who can work independently and with a remote team

Preferred skills

  • IT-related degree qualification
  • Experience with internal business-systems (billing engines, RDBMS-based reporting)
  • Experience with jQuery, AJAX and Web2.0 technologies
  • Working in Linux/OSX environment
  • Keen to learn more about new languages and frameworks
  • Working in an Agile environment and Continuous Integration

Typical experience

  • 3+ years development experience working with Java and web development in a production environment
