Insight for Jira Service Management Pricing & Licensing

We’ve ended sales for new server licenses and will end support for server on February 2, 2024. We’re continuing investment in Data Center with several key improvements. Learn what this means for you.

General Questions

What is Insight? Show

Atlassian recently acquired Mindville. In February we included Mindville Insight in our Jira Service Management Data Center offering. Now we are incorporating the configuration and asset management capabilities (including Discovery) into our Jira Service Management Cloud Premium and Enterprise offerings.

With Insight, teams can track their assets, configuration items, and resources to gain visibility into critical relationships between applications, services, the underlying infrastructure, and other key dependencies.

With Insight, IT teams can:

  • Better respond to service requests by gaining greater context of issues
  • Minimize IT risk by understanding the downstream impact of changes
  • Troubleshoot and resolve major incidents and problems at high velocity
  • Discover and track assets which aids with planning, audits, and compliance

Insight is built on Jira, giving teams a simple and quick way to tie assets and configuration items (CIs) to service requests, incidents, problems, changes, and workloads. Insight is quick to try and delivers value fast!

Unlike legacy CMDBs, Insight’s flexible and open data structure enables teams to manage any kind of asset that’s important to support their ITSM practices. HR, sales & marketing, legal, facilities, and other functions can also use Insight to track and manage their assets and resources.

What's happening with Insight in Jira Service Management Server, Data Center, and the marketplace app? Show

Server - New server license sales will end on February 2, 2021 (including the Insight - Asset Management Server app) and support for existing licenses will end on February 2, 2024. As such, the Insight app/capabilities will not be included in Jira Service Management Server. However, users with an existing license of the app version of Insight can continue to renew and use it until its end of life on February 2, 2024. At that time, we recommend considering Jira Service Management Cloud or Data Center.

Data Center - Starting February 2, 2021, Insight - Asset Management will be integrated into Jira Service Management Data Center 4.15. Insight Discovery will be available to download for free from the Atlassian Marketplace. For customers using Jira Service Management 4.14 or earlier, the Insight - Asset Management app will be available for free from the Atlassian Marketplace.

Your cloud instance will automatically be given access to Insight at launch at no additional cost. You can expect the Insight feature to appear within a week after March 31, 2021.

I already have an active license for the Insight - Asset Management Cloud app and I’m on Jira Service Management Standard or Free. What happens to me? Show

As an Insight Cloud App user, you must migrate your data into Jira Service Management Premium or Enterprise before the end-of-life date of the app (March 31, 2022). There are several things we are doing to help you with this transition.

  1. Since you already have Jira Service Management, you will be auto-enrolled into an extended free trial of Jira Service Management Premium. This trial will be a minimum of 6 month in duration (ending in October 2021), but could be more depending on your Insight Cloud App renewal date. Please check your billing page for more details. This extended trial is free, but you will continue to be billed for the Insight Cloud app for the duration of the trial.
  2. After your trial ends, if you are on the Standard plan, you will be auto-enrolled into Jira Service Management Premium. You can opt out any time by going to Settings—>Billing—>Manage Subscriptions, and then click Change Plan within Jira Service Management.
  3. If you are on the Free plan, your plan will go back to Free and you will need to continue paying for the Insight app until end-of-life on March 31, 2022. If you would like to continue using Premium after the trial has ended, go to Settings—>Billing—>Manage Subscriptions, and then click Change Plan.
  4. Additionally, once the free trial period ends and you are on the Premium plan, you can still continue accessing the Insight Cloud App at no cost, until its end-of-life date (March 31, 2022). If you decide to downgrade to Jira Service Management Free or Standard, you will no longer be entitled to free access of the Insight Cloud app until end-of-life (March 31, 2022).

To see all of the details regarding your renewal dates and length of trial, we encourage you to visit your billing page (from your site’s administration settings), after March 31, 2021.

Instruction of how to migrate your data from the Insight app to Jira Service Management Premium or Enterprise will be provided soon.

What if I do not want the free extended Premium trial? Show

You can downgrade your plan at any time. Inside of Jira Service Management go to Settings—>Billing—>Manage Subscriptions, and then click Change Plan. Please note that if you exit the extended trial of Jira Service Management Premium you will continue to be charged for the standalone Insight app until its end-of-life.

I already have the Insight - Asset Management Cloud app but I’m using Jira Software or Jira Core. What are my options? Show

Jira Software or Jira Core users can continue to pay and renew the Insight Cloud app license up until March 31, 2022 when it will become end-of-life.

Data Center

Data Center Licensing

I already have an active license for the “Insight - Asset Management” app and Jira Software. What options do I have? Show

You can continue to use your Insight app as normal until your subscription period ends regardless of what version of Jira Software Data Center you are on.

Once the subscription expires, if you’re on Jira Software Data Center version 8.15 or higher, you’ll need a Data Center subscription to Jira Service Management (minimum tier) on the same instance to use the apps with Jira Software Data Center.

If you’re on Jira Software Data Center version 8.14 and below, you can switch to using the free version of the app until February 3, 2023.

After that you will need a subscription to Jira Service Management on the same instance.

I have an active license for Jira Software and do not currently have the Insight - Asset Management app. Can I access it? Show

Jira Software Data Center customers on version 8.14 and below do not need a license for Jira Service Management to access the Insight and Insight Discovery apps. You can install a no-cost version of the apps from Marketplace as of February 2, 2021.

These apps will be available for two years, and will only receive critical updates. During that time, if you choose to upgrade to Jira Software Data Center version 8.15 or higher, you’ll need a license for Jira Service Management Data Center to get your users access to the Insight - Asset Management and Insight Discovery functionality.

After two years (February 2, 2023), these apps will be removed from our Marketplace, after which point you will need to have a subscription to Jira Service Management Data Center (or move to Jira Service Management Cloud Premium or Enterprise plans).

What legal terms apply to Insight Data Center? Show

The Atlassian Software License Agreement already applies to Insight Data Center standalone apps. After May 1, 2021, Insight Data Center will also be covered by the Atlassian Privacy Policy, replacing the Mindville Privacy Policy.

The legal terms covering Jira Service Management (Data Center) version 4.15 is the Atlassian Software License Agreement and the Atlassian Privacy Policy.

Data Center Billing

I already have active licenses for the Insight - Asset Management app and Jira Service Management. Will I get credited? Show

If you purchased the Insight - Asset Management app before February 2, 2021, you will not receive prorated credit.

However, you won’t need to renew your subscription for the app.

I need to switch from Jira Service Management Data Center to Jira Service Management Cloud. How will this affect pricing? Show

You can see Cloud pricing here. If you still have time remaining on your Data Center license you can take advantage of our Cloud Migration Trials for a longer Cloud trial period to ease the process of migration.

Server

I have the Insight - Asset Management app for Server, what are my options? Show

Our recommendation is to migrate to Jira Service Management Cloud or Data Center when you are able to.

Current or previous users of the Server Insight - Asset Management app can continue to subscribe as normal.

We will continue providing critical updates for the Insight - Asset Management app until Feb 2, 2023.

On February 2, 2024 PT, all server products will reach end of support. After that date, we will not release any further product updates. Regular security updates help protect your business from threats and vulnerabilities, so we strongly recommend migrating to Cloud or Data Center before the end of support date.
