Kabbage is a pioneering financial services technology and data platform that provides automated funding to small businesses within minutes. Kabbage leverages data generated through business activity such as accounting data, online sales, shipping, and dozens of other sources to understand performance and deliver fast, flexible funding in real time. Kabbage was named by CNBC as a top 50 Disruptor and was included on the Inc. 500 | 5000 list of fastest-growing private companies for two consecutive years. The company now serves more than 90,000 small business customers across all industries, including construction, retail, and professional services.
Experiencing significant company growth since its founding in 2009, Kabbage has relied on a number of tools to manage communication across the organization. As the company grew to more than 350 employees in 2016, the team needed new ways to consolidate and integrate these tools, while streamlining workflow across various departments.
Already familiar with Atlassian for IT and software development, Kabbage standardized on Confluence, and Jira Software across the enterprise to unify process, culture, and communication. To fuel adoption, executive sponsors began posting key company information and articles in Confluence.
As Confluence usage spread, it became the single source of truth at Kabbage. "We use Confluence as our knowledge base and foundation for team collaboration,” explains Danny Baute, head of IT Services at Kabbage.
Seeing huge productivity gains, Kabbage extended Confluence to external partners. "We created a separate Confluence instance for our large partners to house all notes and transactions – ending the torture of wading through 60+ emails in one thread," says Baute.
Atlassian also helps Kabbage facilitate internal communication. The Corporate team uses Confluence to rally people around volunteering, and the Facilities team manages an employee library on Confluence covering a wide range of topics. “We use Atlassian a lot. Everything is in Jira and Confluence,” says Baute.
Teams from Engineering to Marketing, Finance to Facilities, use Jira Software to track and manage internal projects and work with external partners on requests. Support teams and Product Operations, among other groups, rely on Jira Service Desk for ticketing and support management.
On the development side, Engineering and IT have fully integrated Confluence, Jira, Jira Service Desk, Bamboo, and Bitbucket for "the holy grail of continuous deployment," says Danny Baute. They use Atlassian tools to develop Kabbage applications for small business loans, plus the external website, with releases about six times a day. Teams also deploy the applications to large financial partners, like ING, who use the Kabbage platform to provide lines of credit to small business banking customers. Additionally, IT develops tools with Bitbucket and Bamboo to support the applications.
With Atlassian, Kabbage now has an enhanced and more unified platform for communication, process, and collaboration, helping it continuously innovate and grow. Technical and nontechnical teams are more transparent and connected, both internally and with their external partners.
