With today’s upgrade of Jira Studio, customers will see a new and improved Activity Stream on the dashboard. Some improvements are visible, but many more are behind the scenes, making Streams more configurable and better-performing.
The biggest addition to the Activity Stream is direct commenting, meaning that you can select issues or wiki items in the feed, and add a comment directly in-line. The comment will be added to the wiki page or issue you’ve selected, and even better, if you are commenting on somebody else’s comment, your comment will be threaded in the conversation, exactly as you would expect.
Activity Stream comments are the result of an awesome ShipIt Day project by Tim Moore, which we all on the Studio team loved and immediately started planning how to get into the product.
Other Activity Stream improvements: a stream can now also be configured to display updates from multiple projects and/or selected users. You can select a mix of projects or users for any Stream, and as before, you can subscribe to the Stream feed via RSS.
We’ve also spent a lot of time reworking the plumbing of the activity stream. You should notice a faster and more stable activity stream, whether you use it as a dashboard portlet or view it on your project or user profile pages.
We’ve upgraded a few of the Studio applications. The Source (Fisheye) and Reviews (Crucible) applications in Jira Studio have been upgraded to version 1.6. New features include search enhancements for Source, wiki page reviews and enhanced pre-commit reviews.
Studio 1.6 also allows better integration with your IDE. The Atlassian IntelliJ Connector, now compatible with Studio 1.6, allows allows you to interact with issues from Jira and reviews from Crucible without leaving your IDE. Check out this video and blog post for more.
