Sydney, Australia – October 16, 2004 – Atlassian Software Systems today announced the release of Jira 3.0, the company’s flagship, professional issue tracking application. The release marks a significant step forwards for what is fast becoming the leading issue tracker that companies around the world are turning to.
Jira 3.0 is the largest release in Atlassian’s short history. Large indeed, with over 400 individual improvements, Jira 3.0 contains significant new features as well as many, many improvements and bug fixes. Jira’s simple, intuitive yet powerful issue tracking, bug tracking, task tracking, request tracking and practical project management capabilities help it to stand out as the clear choice in the crowded issue tracking market place.
Although tracking and managing the issues, tasks and bugs that emerge during a project is a critically important task, it is one that few teams do effectively. Jira helps organisations to take the philosophy of project management deeper into the organisation and take control of this process by providing an accessible platform that is highly usable by both technical and business users alike. In fact Jira’s intuitive, web-based and internationalised interface allows for near universal accessibility.
Perhaps this helps to explain the fact that Jira is now used by project managers, developers, managers, testers and other staff across thousands of organisations in over 35 countries. Impressively, Jira now boasts a truly remarkable customer list for such a young company with customers including NASA, CERN, Raytheon, Boeing, Cisco, Novell, Harvard, Stanford, MIT, 3M, BP, GE, Sony, AOL, Pixar, BMW, Caterpillar, Pfizer, Vodafone, World Bank, US Supreme Court, European Parliament, Citigroup, McDonalds and on and on it goes.
Speaking at the Jira 3.0 press conference in Sydney today, Atlassian CEO and one of the world’s fifty four “Who’s Who of Enterprise Java”, Mike Cannon-Brookes said, “In today’s highly competitive, transparent environment, customers are conducting more intelligent, open-minded evaluations and assessments of their enterprise software. As Jira really does represent a true alternative to costly and often bloated enterprise software, we are not surprisingly seeing more customers selecting or migrating to Jira for their issue tracking needs. We think the release of Jira 3.0 will further cement our position in this niche.”
As Jira 3.0 is the most significant release of Jira to date it is hard to argue otherwise. With over 400 improvements, Jira 3.0 adds some highly anticipated functionality including support for multiple, customisable workflows (editable through a slick web interface), sub-tasks, an entirely new plug-in architecture (greatly enhancing Jira’s extensibility), a completely redesigned personalised dashboard and much, much more.
With more than 50 players in the issue tracking niche, standing out from the crowd is not a straight forward accomplishment. Even so, it seems that Jira continues to stand out in this overcrowded market. As one customer said: “Jira beats them all soundly in terms of ease of use, versatility and overall features – all at a price that’s nearly a steal.”
