bepartofsummit.jpgAtlassian Summit is less than 50 days away. There are dozens of discussions in this 2-day event. As we run up to the event, we wanted to highlight some of the speakers.
This interview is with Charles Hall of EADS Astrium.. He will be speaking on a session entitled How Confluence Plays Well with Others — from CRM to SharePoint.
What’s your title and role within the organization?
UK Portal Development Team Leader, within the Portal & Collaboration department. I oversee all custom developments, both internally resourced and externally, for portal projects within EADS Astrium UK.
What product(s) will you be presenting at Summit?
I’ll be speaking about Confluence and how we’ve succeeded in integrating it with our Portal, which is version 6.1 of BEA Aqualogic Portal (now named Oracle WebCenter 10gR3).
How is your team using these tool(s)?
Portal was already rolled out across the whole company (10,000+ users) about 5 years ago and a large number of “communities” (collaboration spaces) already existed, so our intention from the beginning of our wiki project was to integrate Confluence to extend the functionality of these communities. So we have communities and wiki spaces being used by as little as two people, as a shared workspace, all the way through to public wiki spaces for sharing knowledge across the company.
Please give us a short preview of your presentation.
The presentation will describe the technical back-end solution we used to get Confluence and the Portal to play together, as well as the benefits this brings to the user community, such as Single sign-on, federated search and a more seamless experience.
What do you hope to get out of Summit yourself?
We’ve been impressed with the quality of Confluence, and so recently we’ve been considering Jira and what it might do for us. Hence the conference will help provide us with some expert insight into that tool, as well as broadening our knowledge of Confluence. I expect to come away with a hat full of ideas around both products which I’ll be sharing with my colleagues.
