SAN FRANCISCO (BUSINESS WIRE) — Atlassian today announced the release of Bamboo 2.2, its popular continuous integration server. This release is dubbed “Elastic Bamboo” because it allows users to run their builds in the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). Bamboo 2.2 provides instantly scalable capacity to meet the rapidly fluctuating needs of typical development cycles.
“Elasticity gives you on-demand, flexible capacity, so that you only pay for what you need, when you need it”
Bamboo automatically compiles and tests code as it changes, providing instant feedback for developers and allowing them to collaborate quickly about their builds. Bamboo lets developers spend less time chasing bugs and more time writing higher quality code. Bamboo 2.2 is the only continuous integration server with the ability to run distributed builds on-premises, in the cloud using Amazon EC2, or through a combination of the two. Amazon EC2 reduces the time required to obtain and boot new server instances to minutes, allowing teams to quickly scale capacity, both up and down, as computing requirements change.
For organisations with several smaller or rapidly evolving teams, allocating dedicated hardware can present both logistical and financial challenges, especially when utilisation varies. Elastic Bamboo addresses this very problem.
“Elasticity gives you on-demand, flexible capacity, so that you only pay for what you need, when you need it,” notes CEO and co-founder Mike Cannon-Brookes. “Most development teams have variable build needs which Elastic Bamboo is an awesome fit for.”
In addition, Bamboo 2.2 has a variety of benefits:

  • Making collaboration easier: notify selected users and groups when a comment is posted against a build
  • Customization: Use HTML to customize the look and feel of your emails
  • First alert: Get notified when builds are hung, and take the appropriate steps to keep builds on track
  • Plus, over 80 fixes and improvements

Bamboo is used by nearly 1000 customers in over 45 countries including: Motorola, Cisco, Mazda, BNP Paribas, Hilton Hotels and Apache Tapestry. Using Bamboo 2.2 in the cloud requires an Amazon Web Services account. With commercial licenses starting at $1200 USD, Bamboo provides excellent value.
