How to lead a fun team icebreaker as Chief Vibes Officer
Chief Vibes Officers bring the play and positivity. Lead a fun team icebreaker that builds trust, sparks joy, and encourages support.
What is a Chief Vibes Officer?
A Chief Vibes Officer (CVO) is the person who leads a fun team icebreaker each week to boost team connection.
The role of CVO rotates each week to keep the ritual easy to maintain and fresh without burdening anyone.
The CVO’s job is to:
- Set the “vibe” for the week by picking a theme (like “favorite foods”) and a question (like “If you could eat just one thing every day, what would it be and why?”)
- Post the question in their team’s communication channel to get the conversation going
- Nurture participation with stories, photos, memes, playlists, and reactions
- Make it easier for teammates to connect, share a bit of themselves, and feel more comfortable asking for help
Hand off the “CVO crown” to the next person in the rotation at the end of the week
Essentially, the role of the CVO is to determine: How do I want my team to feel? What’s going to get us up and running on Monday, keep us motivated throughout the week, and bond us together all the while?
Why do a team icebreaker each week?
This fun, weekly team icebreaker:
- Boosts connection and camaraderie in a lightweight, async way
- Makes space for joy
- Encourages non-work conversations that deepen trust
When should you select a Chief Vibes Officer and do the team icebreaker?
Weekly, or anytime you want to increase team connection remotely without extra meetings.

1. Create a rotation
Geschätzte Dauer: 5 Min.
Start a shared document, like a Confluence page, and give access to everyone on the team.
Then, add a table like the one below. Add teammates alphabetically or ask AI to create a random rotation.
The CVO role should rotate weekly. Encourage everyone to participate at least once to build connection across the team.

2. Set the vibe and start the conversation
Geschätzte Dauer: 2 MIN.
Each Monday, the CVO picks a fun or meaningful “vibe” and posts it in your team’s communication channel, like Slack or Teams. The vibe is a theme or question meant to spark a light, ongoing conversation throughout the week.
As CVO, pick from one of the suggested themes and questions, or come up with your own. Reply to your own post to get the conversation going.
Sample Slack message:
Hi folks, this is your Chief Vibes Officer speaking.
This week, we're dreaming big. As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? Sound off in the thread!
Tip: Use AI to brainstorm and differentiate
Need ideas? Ask AI to brainstorm themes and related questions. If AI is integrated with the rest of your toolset, like Rovo, you can ask it to scan through your chat channel or document to see what themes have already been covered, then brainstorm unique ideas.
3. Support ongoing participation
Geschätzte Dauer: 2 Min.
Encourage teammates to contribute stories, photos, emojis, or their own responses. You could:
- Share a meme or playlist that matches the theme
- Offer a personal story or example
- Acknowledge or react to others who join in
Sample first comment from Chief Vibes Officer:
I wanted to be a weather woman on TV! True story: Instead of posters of boy bands, I had pictures of hurricanes in my room.
Tip: Encourage, but don’t force it
When 50%+ of your team participates, people feel more connected and more comfortable asking for help. Some colleagues may not want to answer personal questions, and that’s ok.
4. Hand over the “crown” on Friday
Geschätzte Dauer: 1 Minute
Wrap up the week by passing the CVO “crown” to the next person listed in the rotation. Tag them in Slack or Teams so they’re ready for Monday.
Sample Slack message:
Friday vibe check!
It was a joy learning about your childhood dream jobs. The award for most specific dream goes to Robbie, the wannabe Dinosaur Bone Miner.
Passing the CVO crown to Marina for next week!
