Versatile architecture
You can deploy Data Center in two different architectures: non-clustered or clustered.
For organizations that don't require high-availability, we recommend you deploy Data Center in a non-clustered architecture. With this architecture, leverage your existing server infrastructure and upgrade your license key to make the move to Data Center. This enables you to unlock out-of-the-box features, such as advanced auditing, support for CDN, and rate limiting.
For organizations that do require high-availability, a clustered architecture is the way to go. It's important to note that you will need to add additional components to your infrastructure to support this architecture. In addition to getting out-of-the-box features, you also unlock zero-downtime upgrades (ZDU) and rolling upgrades, which help you eliminate your organization’s planned downtime.
Flexible hosting options
Just like you can choose the architecture, you can choose how you want to host Data Center. Regardless of the hosting method you choose, you will still maintain control your data.
If you are happy with your current setup, you can continue to host Data Center on your own hardware.
If your organization is ready and want to take advantage of cloud computing, you can use a cloud provider, such as Amazon Web Service (AWS), Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Provider (GCP), to host your data. By leveraging IaaS, you get all the benefits of the cloud while maintaining the control your organization needs. With additional support for things, such as Amazon Aurora, you can build your cloud infrastructure to better support your needs.
You can also choose to use Atlassian-supported and maintained Docker container images, so you can easily standardize across your deployment, regardless of what hardware you’re using.
Advanced capabilites
Successfully scaling your organization requires you to build practices and processes into your IT framework - such as DevOps or DevSecOps. To do this, you need products built to support these types of practices at an enterprise-level.
Based on the architecture and hosting option you choose, your Data Center products can help you build these practices into your organization.
You can leverage Docker container images to standardize and reduce overhead to make it easier for your organization to scale, or even automate rolling upgrades, which has been optimized with DevOps in mind.
