As an avid golfer, my thoughts inevitably drift to the golf course this time of year. Anyone who’s hit the links knows a great round is not merely a product of luck; it is crafted from an ongoing combination of individual shots, each one requiring focus, precision, and strategy.
Just as a golfer must maintain a high-level view of the course while being able to hone in on the details of each swing, leaders must navigate the broader landscape of their strategic priorities while also paying close attention to the finer points of execution.
Leaders must be able to dig into the little details to answer the BIG questions such as: Are teams focusing on what truly matters? Will their work drive the outcomes our business needs? Is everyone aligned in the right direction for the company? Are we missing something big?
Atlassian’s new Strategy Collection connects leaders to all parts of their organization so they can answer these crucial questions with confidence, and act fast when required. It provides a clear view connecting strategy to execution, with real-time data showing if teams are driving toward the outcomes that matter most.
This specialized collection, purpose-built for leaders of technology-driven enterprises, brings together three apps – Focus (now generally available), Talent (a brand new app), and Jira Align.
The Strategy Collection
⛳️ What’s in the bag:
- Focus: A leader’s central hub for strategic planning that provides a single place for real-time visibility into how company priorities are progressing.
- Talent: A new workforce planning app to help leaders make sure the right people are working on the most important priorities.
- Align: An app for planning and tracking work across an enterprise, and to visualize how all that work ladders up to to strategic priorities.
Meet the Strategy Collection
Imagine the Strategy Collection as a golfer’s bag, filled with essential clubs, each designed for specific shots and challenges on the course. Just as a golfer needs the right club for each shot, the Strategy Collection equips leaders with the right apps—Focus, Talent, and Align—to tackle different aspects of strategic planning.
Focus
First introduced at Team ’24 Europe, Focus transforms a static strategic plan into a living artifact where leaders can see in real-time how the company is tracking against top priorities and key results.

Focus provides a central hub for mapping and tracking goals, work, teams, and funds related to your enterprise’s strategic initiatives or priorities.
- Goals: Goals are set at the highest level and live throughout the Atlassian platform so they are visible across all apps and teams.
- Work: Work tracked in Jira or Align automatically rolls up to a Focus Area. Soon, teams will be able to pull in information from other work management tools as well. Leaders can dive deeper into any activity happening in their organization, making it easy to identify an at-risk priority.
- Teams: Focus connects to our new Talent app for strategic workforce planning across an organization.
- Funds: Connect financial data to a Focus area to get a unified view of budgets and investments.

With visibility into what teams are working on and understanding how it aligns with the broader strategy, Focus let’s us determine where there are opportunities and efficiencies.”

Talent
In an enterprise with thousands of employees, managing talent isn’t about shuffling org charts – it’s about understanding skills, availability, and impact across a complex portfolio.
Our new Talent app gives leaders an instant view of how resources are deployed to a Focus Area and helps them make sure the right people are in place to support both short and long-term goals.

If a project team is missing an important skill set, AI can help. Leaders can use the Talent Advisor agent to search for employees who have skills that match the project’s demands.

How Atlassian Used Talent To Launch New AI Features
Atlassian use case
As a large enterprise, we need to balance the speed of delivering valuable and innovative AI products to our customers with assessing the ROI of each project and ensuring each team is getting the right resources. Our corporate engineering team developed what is now Atlassian Talent to help us with resource planning for all projects, starting with AI. For example, when considering whether to increase or maintain allocations for specific AI projects, engineering leadership used Talent to map engineers to projects. Then, they could look at projected ROI or capacity for those projects to help us make informed decisions on where to ramp up our AI investments in real-time without losing speed. Talent is now widely used by our leaders to conduct effective workforce planning across all projects and initiatives.”

Align
Align empowers enterprise-wide work planning from idea to delivery (or tee to green, if you will). It informs teams what they should work on next, what blockers are getting in their way, what risks need to be addressed, and how their work is translating into value.

Existing Align customers will get access to the full Strategy Collection at no additional cost.
Failing to capture strategic guidance and integrate that guidance with downstream tools is how you keep the old ways in place. But Jira Align is shining a light and allows us to share information across teams.”
