Partners helped build a $7 billion Marketplace. What will you build next?
The Atlassian Marketplace has surpassed $7B in lifetime sales, and while that alone is a milestone worth celebrating, the pace behind it may be even more exciting. The most recent $1 billion was transacted in just nine months, the fastest billion in Marketplace history. Nearly half of all lifetime Marketplace sales happened in the last three years.
Those numbers reflect something bigger than just a storefront. They reflect years of customer trust, partner ingenuity, and demand for solutions that help teams shape Atlassian products around the way they work.
For builders, the milestone proves the market. The acceleration makes the timing matter.
What $7 billion represents
Since Marketplace monetization began in 2012, customers have used the Atlassian Marketplace to discover apps that extend Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management, and other Atlassian products.
Those apps solve needs as varied as test management, diagramming, time tracking, compliance, security, migrations, and thousands of specialized workflows. They help customers turn Atlassian products into the tools their teams need without waiting for every use case to appear on a core product roadmap.
For partners, the Marketplace offers a path from product idea to global distribution. As of the end of June 2026, more than 40% of Atlassian customers had at least one Marketplace app installed. The ecosystem includes more than 6,000 Cloud apps, including over 3,700 public apps built on Forge, as well as more than 10,000 custom Forge apps created for individual organizations and use cases.
It shows the scale an open platform and a global community of builders can achieve together.
A note on the number: “Lifetime sales” is the total value of paid Marketplace app purchases (across Cloud, Data Center, and Server) since paid apps first became available. It’s the amount customers have spent through the Marketplace, not Atlassian’s own revenue.”
The opportunity is accelerating
The Marketplace crossed $1 billion in lifetime sales in December 2019 and $2 billion in October 2021. Since then, the total has grown more than three and a half times, and the latest billion arrived faster than any before it.
That acceleration matters for developers, founders, and established software companies alike. It points to growing demand for solutions that remove friction, connect work across teams, and increasingly, help customers put AI to work inside the Atlassian products they already use.
Customers feel that demand acutely. Recent Atlassian research shows 77% of knowledge workers said it matters that their AI deeply understands their company’s institutional knowledge, yet only 21% believe that it actually does. That gap between what teams expect from AI and what they get is exactly the space new Marketplace apps can fill.
The next great Marketplace company could begin with a workflow no one has solved well yet, an industry need that deserves a purpose-built solution, or a new way for AI to take on repetitive work.
Why build on Atlassian now?
The opportunity is open to different kinds of builders. A solo developer can test a focused app idea and learn from the developer community. An established software company can bring proven expertise to a new customer base. Both can build on the same platform and publish through the same Marketplace.
Reach customers through a proven marketplace
Building a great product is only part of creating a great software business. Builders also need a way to reach the right customers, transact, learn, and grow.
The Atlassian Marketplace connects solutions with organizations already investing in Jira, Confluence, Jira Service Management, and the wider Atlassian platform. Partners can pair that distribution with Marketplace commerce capabilities, resources, and go-to-market programs designed to support growth.

Focus on your idea, not the plumbing
Forge gives developers a cloud app development platform for building on Atlassian. Its frameworks, APIs, hosting, and platform capabilities help teams spend more time on differentiated customer value and less time assembling infrastructure.
Whether you are testing a first idea or evolving an established app portfolio, Forge can help you build solutions that fit naturally into how Atlassian customers work, and because you’re building inside the Atlassian Ecosystem, your app becomes more than an add-on. It becomes part of how customers get work done every day.
Build for the AI era of teamwork
Partners are already building AI experiences on Atlassian. Marketplace Partner Opus Guard, for example, used Forge and Rovo to build AI-assisted data governance for Confluence. It shows how a focused customer problem, combined with Atlassian’s platform, can quickly become an intelligent, enterprise-ready solution.
The next generation of Marketplace apps will not only help teams customize Atlassian, but also plug into where organizational context already lives. Because these apps sit inside Jira, Confluence, and the Teamwork Graph, they can ground AI in the institutional knowledge, decisions, and data that understands how a team actually works. And through the Atlassian Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server, a growing range of AI clients can now work directly with Jira and Confluence, creating a fresh surface for partners to build on.

- Join, launch, and grow. Create your Marketplace Partner profile, prepare your app for listing, and connect with the Atlassian Developer Community as you build.
Help build the next billion
Seven billion dollars in lifetime sales shows what Atlassian customers and Marketplace Partners have already created together. The speed of the latest billion shows how much opportunity may still be ahead.
Some future partners will arrive with an established software business. Others will begin with a prototype, a customer request, or an idea sketched out on paper. What they share is the opportunity to solve meaningful problems for teams around the world, and to grow alongside an ecosystem with proven demand.
The next chapter of the Atlassian Marketplace will be built by partners. It will be more connected, more intelligent, and more ambitious than the one before it.
