Enhanced Security with Step-Up Authentication via Email OTP
We are excited to announce a significant enhancement to the security of your Atlassian account! To further protect your sensitive information and ensure that only you can make critical changes, we are introducing Step-Up Authentication via Email One-Time Password (OTP) to verify your identity.
What is Step-Up Authentication?
Step-Up Authentication adds an extra layer of security when you attempt to make security changes to your account from account settings->security, such as creating an API token. When making these, you will be asked to verify your identity, and you will receive a unique one-time password (OTP) sent directly to your email address. This ensures that even if someone has access to your account credentials, they cannot make changes without verifying your identity via the email OTP.
How It Works:
- Initiate a Security Change on your profile: When you attempt to make a security-related change to your account, you will be prompted to verify your identity.
- Receive an OTP: An email containing a one-time password will be sent to your registered email address.
- Enter the OTP: Simply enter the OTP in the provided field to complete your security change.

- Increased Protection: This feature significantly reduces the risk of unauthorised access to your account.
- User-Friendly: The process is straightforward and quick, ensuring your security is enhanced without adding unnecessary complexity.

Getting Started:
To take advantage of this new feature, ensure that your email address is up to date in your account settings. If you have not yet enabled two-factor authentication (2FA), we highly recommend doing so for even greater security.
