Equipping Engineering Teams for the AI‑Native SDLC
Over the last few years, Compass has helped thousands of developers answer a fundamental question: What do I own, and where do I find it? By bringing services, ownership, repos, and documentation into one place, Compass gave teams a shared map of their software.
But the world around that map has changed.
AI is now threaded throughout the software development lifecycle, from planning and coding to testing, operations, and incident response. Leaders are asking new questions:
- Is AI actually helping our teams ship better software, faster?
- Where is it introducing friction, risk, or rework?
- How healthy is our software and delivery pipeline, end‑to‑end?
With Atlassian’s recent acquisition of DX, we are ready to better equip your team to answer these questions. We are excited to introduce DX Fabric as Atlassian’s solution for helping engineering teams adopt AI more effectively, measure software health, and drive meaningful, organizational change based on those insights. With this shift, Compass will be phased out, and we are encouraging all Compass customers to transition to DX to benefit from these new capabilities.
Evolving from Compass IDP to DX Fabric
Compass gave teams visibility into software components and ownership. Our customers are now asking for more: a platform that can measure, understand, and improve how engineering orgs work with both humans and AI agents.
DX Fabric builds directly on what Compass started, with a focus on:
- Providing the crucial context layer for an AI-native SDLC
Equip your AI agents with rich architectural context from your software catalog to accurately assess software health and confidently drive change.
- Powering agent‑driven improvements
Use health signals and scorecards to trigger workflows and AI agents that propose or implement improvements—such as opening PRs to address reliability issues or close compliance gaps. - Real AI impact measurement Move past anecdotes. See how AI‑assisted development is affecting cycle time, quality, and developer experience so you can adopt agents more effectively and be better positioned for success.
In other words: where Compass helped you map your software, DX builds upon that and helps continuously improve it. This is the evolution of your IDP: from a static catalog to an intelligence layer that can guide both teams and AI agents toward better outcomes.
What this means for Compass customers
- Compass is being phased out, and its core capabilities will be delivered through DX Fabric.
Compass scorecard and catalog functionality will move to DX’s robust and flexible platform, centralizing where you measure and track your services, improve software health, and become AI-ready.
- You’ll have a guided, supported path to DX. Our teams will work with you to understand your current Compass usage and map out a transition plan—both technically and commercially. You’ll receive an email with tailored next steps.
- No immediate change to access. We’ll provide clear, early communication well before any changes to your environment.
DX will become the primary place for customers to:
- Track and improve developer productivity and experience
- Measure and manage the impact of AI in your SDLC
- Monitor and enhance software health and reliability
