Jira 2.1 is released today in both Professional and Enterprise editions.

* Permission Schemes – Administrators can now specify a set of permissions and save them in a scheme that can be used on multiple projects.
* User picker – There is a now a pop up that allow web users to search for users in the system easily.
* Handlers now add attachments – E-Mail handlers now take the attachments from emails and add them to the relevant issue.
* Mail Queue Improvements – The mail queue has been improved so that erroring mail messages get put in an error mail queue, which can then be deleted or resent.
* Massively improved documentation – the “Jira 2.1 documentation”:http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/docs/v2.1 is now in a common format with easy navigation:
* PDF documentation – we’re still actively improving our output PDFs, but
you can already download all the Jira documentation as a “single PDF file”:http://www.atlassian.com/software/jira/docs/v2.1/jira-manual.pdf (1.2Mb), or view each document as a PDF:
* Improved project Statistics – The project statistics are now updated in real time instead of being cached.
* Time tracking configuration – Work logs can now be configured to use specified “hours per day” and “days per week” so that work estimates are updated more logically for your business needs. Original time estimates are also preserved.
* “Don’t spam me” – Users can now specify that they do not wish to receive email when they update one of their own issues.
* Improved Help System – almost all forms within Jira now have help links, which link to the improved documentation.
* Version rescheduling – Versions can now be moved to the beginning or the end of the schedule.
* Better notification on issue assignment – Both the old and new assignees are notified when an issue is assigned to a new user.
* Better stats on the roadmap – The road map and personal road map now display how many issue are still unresolved.
* Backup improvements – The backup service now shows the full path where back up file is placed.
* Improved error handling – Jira now directs to an error page if there is an error that will stop Jira running.
* Process running page – Jira now displays a page saying that the a task e.g. Upgrade is running so the user can not corrupt data by editing issue.
* Improved project creation – Users can select Permission Schemes, Notification Schemes and Security Schemes on project creation.
* Improved setup wizard – Users can now specify a backup path when installing Jira for the first time.
h3. Enterprise Features
* Issue Level Security – individual issues can now have security levels associated with them, grouped in issue security schemes.
* Fine grained permissioning – Permissions can now be established for reporters, assignees and individual users.
Combined these two features allow you to control who can view issues much more carefully. For example newly create issues can be ‘hidden’ from the public until they are checked by one of your developers – or you can mix public and private issues within a single project.
