Introducing Rovo Think Deeper: Stronger reasoning, right when you need it

We’ve all been there: you ask Rovo, AI that’s integrated in your workflow, a question and get an answer that’s technically correct, but not quite as thorough as needed. On the flip side, running Deep research gives you a beautifully structured report with citations… that can be more than you need in the moment.

But sometimes real work lives in the “in-between.”

That’s why we are introducing Think deeper for Atlassian Rovo. Built for those moments when a simple and quick answer isn’t enough, but a full research report is too much. Think deeper strikes the perfect balance, allowing Rovo to deliver thoughtful, reasoned, and complete answers without the runtime of a full Deep research session.

How it works: From answering to planning

When Think deeper is engaged, Rovo doesn’t just answer; it plans. Under the hood, Rovo enters a deliberate reasoning loop. It dynamically breaks your query into manageable subtasks, tackles each one methodically, and reflects on the intermediate results.

• It plans: Breaks your request into manageable subtasks, identifies which skills or tools to call, and what context to pull in.
• It iterates: After each subtask, it checks the results to decide if it needs to dig deeper or refine its approach.
• It connects: Powered by the Teamwork Graph, Rovo understands the “who, what, and where” of your organization, eliminating blind spots between tools and teams.
• It verifies: By the time you get the answer, Rovo has already “checked its work,” ensuring no major stone was left unturned.

And because Think deeper runs in Rovo, you get access to a rich set of Rovo Skills that let every team turn the results of that reasoning into action, drafting PRDs, creating Jira work items, scheduling meeting follow-ups, or sending messages, all within the same conversation.

Rovo routes by default; you steer when you need to

You may wonder when to turn on Think deeper or what happens if you forget. The good news is that you don’t have to be a prompt engineer to get the best results. Rovo automatically chooses the right level of reasoning for your request. This means Rovo will not waste time “overthinking” a simple question, and similarly, it won’t give you a shallow answer to a more complex prompt. It analyzes your prompt to choose the appropriate strategy and adjust as needed:

1. Standard Chat (Quick answers: 5–10 sec): For simple prompts like “Summarize this page” or “Who owns this ticket?”, Rovo responds almost instantly.
2. Think deeper (Reasoned: 1–3 minutes): For more complex prompts like “Analyze this financial report for risks” or “Evaluate tradeoffs between these two feature proposals,” Rovo takes a moment to apply deeper reasoning before responding.
3. Deep research (Research reports: 10–15 minutes): For large, research-based prompts—like “Create a chronological customer history for [Customer Name], summarizing key interactions, insights, and decisions from all sources.” Rovo works through information across Atlassian and connected SaaS apps and delivers a structured report with lots of citations.
   1. * Rovo never routes to Deep research on its own. When you need a full research-style answer, you’ll explicitly toggle on Deep research.

Rovo does its best to decide how much “thinking” is needed for each question, but you’re still in charge. If you already know your request is sophisticated, you can turn on Think deeper. That tells Rovo to slow down, look at the details, and give you a more careful, thorough answer.

If you’re in a hurry, just keep your prompt short and clear. Skip phrases like “think step-by-step” or “analyze in detail,” which prompt Rovo to dig in more and will take longer.
