What's the difference between Cloud and Server options? show +

With Confluence Cloud, Atlassian hosts and sets up your Confluence site for you. This is the best option for teams that want to get started quickly and easily, and for teams that don't want to manage the technical complexity of hosting themselves.

With Confluence Server and Confluence Data Center, you host Confluence on your own infrastructure and can customize your setup. This is the best option for teams that want to manage setup details and don't mind the additional complexity of hosting themselves.

When should I choose the Premium plan over the Standard plan? show +

Confluence Cloud Premium provides an advanced toolkit to help admins better manage their Confluence site with more visibility and control. New product features give administrators temporary access to restricted pages to resolve permissions issues fast. Analytics also offers deeper insights about your team’s site, space, and page use for better reporting, resource decisions, and content.

For organizations who need confidence in their ability to scale, the Premium plan also offers 24/7 Premium Support with 1 hour response times for critical issues, unlimited storage, and a 99.9% uptime SLA financially backed by service credits.

What is the difference between Premium and Atlassian Access? Do I need both? show +

Confluence Cloud Premium allows teams to scale reliably and confidently with unlimited storage, a financially backed 99.9% uptime SLA, and 24/7 Premium Support. In addition our premium plan gives admins and end users product features for more visibility and control.

Think of Atlassian Access as your “umbrella policy” for enterprise-grade security and user management in the cloud. Atlassian Access enables admins to enforce consistent, company-wide security and access policies across all Atlassian cloud products being used within their organization.

When you layer Access with our Premium plans, you’ll get an enterprise-grade solution for scaling and securing Atlassian cloud content and users across your organization.

Self-managed Pricing FAQ

Can I try Confluence for free?

Of course! You can host a fully functional copy of Confluence on your own hardware for 30 days for free. Simply download Confluence to get started.

If you love it (which we believe you will), you can continue using Confluence by simply updating your existing instance with a purchased license key. Confluence licenses can be purchased online.

What is a Confluence user?

A Confluence user is any user that can log into Confluence. Anonymous users may also be granted access and do not count against license totals.

Do you offer discounts for academic institutions?

Qualified academic institutions receive a 50% discount on server licenses with more than 10 users.

What is included with my license purchase?

We believe the Confluence licensing scheme is simple, upfront and equitable.

Our Server licenses entitle you to perpetual use, and include 12 months maintenance (updates/support) starting from the date of purchase. Renewing maintenance is entirely optional.

Data Center is offered on an annual term license that includes updates and support as long as your term license is active. Data Center licenses expire and are not perpetual like our server licenses.

What payment options do you accept?

Self-hosted (Server) licenses can be paid via Credit Card, Bank Transfer, Check, or ACH (US banks only). Please note that 10-User Starter licenses must be paid via Credit Card.

What happens if I am not satisfied with my Confluence purchase?

If you're not satisfied with any Atlassian product or service, we offer a 30–day money–back guarantee, no questions asked. As proceeds from the 10 user Server licenses are donated to charity, the purchase of these licenses can not be refunded.

What's the difference between Cloud and Server options?

With the Cloud option, we host and setup your Confluence site in the cloud for you. This is generally the best option for teams who want to get started quickly and easily, and for teams who don't want to manage the technical complexity of hosting themselves.

With the Server and Data Center options, you host Confluence on your own hardware and you're able to customize your setup however you'd like. This is generally the best option for teams who want to manage all the details of the setup and don't mind the additional complexity of hosting themselves.
