General Questions
Atlassian recently acquired Mindville. In February we included Mindville Insight in our Jira Service Management Data Center offering. Now we are incorporating the configuration and asset management capabilities (including Discovery) into our Jira Service Management Cloud Premium and Enterprise offerings. With Insight, teams can track their assets, configuration items, and resources to gain visibility into critical relationships between applications, services, the underlying infrastructure, and other key dependencies. With Insight, IT teams can:
Insight is built on Jira, giving teams a simple and quick way to tie assets and configuration items (CIs) to service requests, incidents, problems, changes, and workloads. Insight is quick to try and delivers value fast! Unlike legacy CMDBs, Insight’s flexible and open data structure enables teams to manage any kind of asset that’s important to support their ITSM practices. HR, sales & marketing, legal, facilities, and other functions can also use Insight to track and manage their assets and resources. |
Server - New server license sales have ended as of February 2, 2021 (including the Insight - Asset Management Server app) and support for existing licenses will end on February 15, 2024 PT. As such, the Insight app/capabilities will not be included in Jira Service Management Server. However, users with an existing license of the app version of Insight can continue to renew and use it until its end of life on February 15, 2024 PT. At that time, we recommend considering Jira Service Management Cloud or Data Center. Data Center - Starting February 2, 2021, Insight - Asset Management will be integrated into Jira Service Management Data Center 4.15. Insight Discovery will be available to download for free from the Atlassian Marketplace. For customers using Jira Service Management 4.14 or earlier, the Insight - Asset Management app will be available for free from the Atlassian Marketplace. |
On March 31, 2021 Insight capabilities will be integrated into the Jira Service Management Premium and Enterprise plans. With this integration comes many new features for Insight including the ability to import data from Insight Discovery (which is available to download from the marketplace at no cost), better integration of Insight data into Jira issues, advanced automation capabilities, and more. See the Features section below for details. The Insight - Asset Management Cloud app will no longer be available for purchase at this date. It will end-of-life for existing users on March 31, 2022. |
After the announcement on March 31, the capabilities should appear within a week. Visit this link to learn more about how to set up the asset & configuration management capabilities in Jira Service Management. |

Cloud
As of March 31, 2021 there will be no new sales of this app. One year later, on March 31, 2022, the app will reach its end-of-life and be switched off. Users will need to have migrated their data from the app into the integrated version of Insight for Jira Service Management Premium or Enterprise by this date. See the Migration section for more details. |
Your cloud instance will automatically be given access to Insight at launch at no additional cost. You can expect the Insight feature to appear within a week after March 31, 2021. If you are already using the Insight - Asset Management Cloud app, your data will NOT automatically be migrated across to the new integrated Insight for Jira Service Management. We are currently developing schema export and import to help support customers migrating from the app to the new integrated Insight for Jira Service Management Premium or Enterprise. Please see the Migration section for more details. |
Cloud Licensing

No, Insight is only available in the Premium or Enterprise plans of Jira Service Management. If you would like to gain access to Insight, you must be on one of these plans. |
No, you must have a Jira Service Management Premium or Enterprise license to access Insight functionality. If you do, then Insight objects can be used in Jira Software and Jira Core projects (see the the question below). Yes. Insight objects can be linked to Jira Software or Jira Core issues as long as there’s an active Jira Service Management Premium or Enterprise license in the same instance. In the issue view, Jira Software/Jira Core users will be able to view linked objects and the object’s attributes. Only a licensed user of both Jira Service Management Premium or Enterprise and Jira Software/Jira Core, will have the ability to view the Object Graph and update the Insight objects linked to the Jira Software/Jira Core issue. To access the Insight database, you will need to be a licensed user of Jira Service Management Premium or Enterprise and be given the necessary permissions by the administrators. |
After May 1, 2021, all use of the standalone Insight apps will be governed by the Atlassian Cloud Terms of Service and covered by the Atlassian Privacy Policy, replacing the Mindville End User License Agreement and Mindville Privacy Policy. The legal terms covering Jira Service Management Premium and the Insight feature for Cloud are the Atlassian Cloud Terms of Service and Atlassian Privacy Policy. |
Cloud Billing
Insight will be included with Jira Service Management Premium and Enterprise plans at no additional cost. Pricing can be found here. |
We are not offering credit, however, upon the next renewal date of the Insight - Asset Management app, the license will be no cost until the app goes end-of-life on March 31, 2022. If you decide to downgrade to Jira Service Management Free or Standard, you will no longer be entitled to free access to the Insight app. You will need to migrate your data from the stand-alone app version to the integrated version of Insight by March 31, 2022 (see Migration section below for more details). |
As an Insight Cloud App user, you must migrate your data into Jira Service Management Premium or Enterprise before the end-of-life date of the app (March 31, 2022). There are several things we are doing to help you with this transition.
To see all of the details regarding your renewal dates and length of trial, we encourage you to visit your billing page (from your site’s administration settings), after March 31, 2021. Instructions on how to migrate your data from the Insight app to Jira Service Management Premium or Enterprise are detailed here. |
You can downgrade your plan at any time. Inside of Jira Service Management go to Settings—>Billing—>Manage Subscriptions, and then click Change Plan. Please note that if you exit the extended trial of Jira Service Management Premium you will continue to be charged for the standalone Insight app until its end-of-life. |
Jira Software or Jira Core users can continue to pay and renew the Insight Cloud app license up until March 31, 2022 when it will become end-of-life. We encourage all existing Insight app users to try Jira Service Managment Premium. An extended trial can be obtained by first provisioning a Jira Service Management Premium trial and then contacting Atlassian for extension of this trial. |
Cloud Features
No, there is no difference between the Insight features in Jira Service Management Premium and Enterprise, but the Enterprise plan has additional Jira Service Management features that you can see here. |
Insight Discovery is a free app that can be downloaded from the marketplace and used with Insight on a site that has Jira Service Management Premium or Enterprise licensed users. View this page to learn more about Insight Discovery. |
Insight as part of Jira Service Management Premium and Enterprise plans will support an import and normalisation engine, similar to what is available in the Server and Data Center versions previously. At launch, the following import types will be supported (with additional import types and integrations to follow):
|
Cloud Merging & Migration
Jira Service Management Cloud can be upgraded from Standard to Premium at any time via the Manage Subscriptions page of your Atlassian Cloud site or by contacting a sales representative. For Enterprise queries, please contact a sales representative. |
Instructions on how to use the Insight schema export and import, which will help you migrate your data from Insight - Asset Management Cloud app to Insight for Jira Service Management Cloud Premium or Enterprise, can be found here. You are able to continue using the Insight - Asset Management Cloud app until March 31, 2022 so you do not need to migrate immediately. After March 31, 2022, you will no longer be able to access your data in the old app. |
You are still able to use your Insight - Asset Management app up until March 31, 2022. After that date the app will become end-of-life and the data contained within it will no longer be available. |
Data Center
Jira Service Management Data Center version 4.15. |
Data Center Licensing
You can continue to use your Insight app as normal until your subscription period ends regardless of what version of Jira Software Data Center you are on. Once the subscription expires, if you’re on Jira Software Data Center version 8.15 or higher, you’ll need a Data Center subscription to Jira Service Management (minimum tier) on the same instance to use the apps with Jira Software Data Center. If you’re on Jira Software Data Center version 8.14 and below, you can switch to using the free version of the app until February 15, 2023 PT. After that you will need a subscription to Jira Service Management on the same instance. |
Jira Software Data Center customers on version 8.14 and below do not need a license for Jira Service Management to access the Insight and Insight Discovery apps. You can install a no-cost version of the apps from Marketplace as of February 2, 2021. These apps will be available for two years, and will only receive critical updates. During that time, if you choose to upgrade to Jira Software Data Center version 8.15 or higher, you’ll need a license for Jira Service Management Data Center to get your users access to the Insight - Asset Management and Insight Discovery functionality. Effective February 15, 2023 PT, these apps will be removed from our Marketplace, after which point you will need to have a subscription to Jira Service Management Data Center (or move to Jira Service Management Cloud Premium or Enterprise plans). |
The Atlassian Software License Agreement already applies to Insight Data Center standalone apps. After May 1, 2021, Insight Data Center will also be covered by the Atlassian Privacy Policy, replacing the Mindville Privacy Policy. The legal terms covering Jira Service Management (Data Center) version 4.15 is the Atlassian Software License Agreement and the Atlassian Privacy Policy. |
Data Center Billing
If you purchased the Insight - Asset Management app before February 2, 2021, you will not receive prorated credit. However, you won’t need to renew your subscription for the app. |
You can see Cloud pricing here. If you still have time remaining on your Data Center license you can take advantage of our Cloud Migration Trials for a longer Cloud trial period to ease the process of migration. |
Server
Our recommendation is to migrate to Jira Service Management Cloud or Data Center when you are able to. Current or previous users of the Server Insight - Asset Management app can continue to subscribe as normal. Effective February 15, 2023 PT, Insight Asset Management for server will be removed from our Marketplace, after which point you will need to have a subscription to Jira Service Management Data Center (or move to Jira Service Management Cloud Premium or Enterprise plans). On February 15, 2024 PT, all server products will reach end of support. After that date, we will not release any further product updates. Regular security updates help protect your business from threats and vulnerabilities, so we strongly recommend migrating to Cloud or Data Center before the end of support date. |
