Hit Your Stride: Designing Real-time Collaboration for Teams
Teamwork makes the dream work - but what if your dream is to help your team work better? What does working better even mean when teams are more digital, distributed, dynamic and diverse than ever before? In the Summer of 2017 Atlassian tasked a cross-functional research team with unlocking the potential of Atlassian tools to better support modern teams. In this talk, Sara Dubuque, Senior Designer, will share our research into team dynamics and our resulting design explorations in team communication.
How Kaiser Permanente uses Jira Software for Analytic Data Management
If you think of an industry with incredible amounts of data, healthcare should be one that springs to mind. And in an organization the size of Kaiser Permanente (KP), analytics must be used to inform every part of the business. Using Jira Software as the core of an Analytic Request Management (ARM) solution is a unique use case. Designed to increase collaboration and transparency in analytic work across the organization, the ARM system is standardized to enable reporting across multiple departments but also allows for customization according to departmental workflows. Our system is built with Jira Software to manage the analytic development lifecycle and a web application to provide non-technical users with a simple way to submit, search, and view analytic requests.
We'll walk through the challenges we faced prior to implementing our solution, how we developed our solution using Jira Software as the backbone, and the benefits provided by Jira Software for our users. We'll highlight early successes to improve communication and collaboration, and talk about how the web application and Jira Software work together to allow a simple submission form for non-technical users that also populates critical fields in Jira Software.
Breaking Barriers: How Atlassian Is Building a Gender-Balanced Team at Scale
It's no secret that women are underrepresented in technical fields. In this talk, you'll see scientific evidence of the barriers that women face on the technical job market, and hear about concrete ways to these barriers lead to inaccurate and inefficient hiring for companies. Atlassian has used this knowledge to develop tactics and initiatives resulting in >46% female technical hires in their last three intern and graduate cohorts (from 10% just 2 years ago). Join Aubrey Blanche, head of diversity & inclusion to learn about what you can do to overcome the diversity gap and hire the right talent help your business scale.
Ideation at Sprint Pace
Will your team be faced with big problems, time limitations, stuck with same old ideas, or all three? Great, you're the perfect candidate for a design sprint. They deliver low risk high reward solutions to the biggest problems in a short amount of time. Learn how starting at the end gives you reliable customer signal before committing to the expense of developing and launching of a product. This session covers key concepts and actionable take-a-ways to empower teams from start-up size to enterprise.
Early Signal Testing: Designing Atlassian’s New Look
You probably have noticed the new look of Atlassian's Cloud products. Our new Design Guidelines took many months to create, and our team had many tough decisions to make. Luckily, we incorporated customer research along the way to guide us.
One of our most valuable research tools is called “early signal testing”, and we think it can help you too. Early signal testing can help you gain confidence in a direction, rather than being paralyzed by a choice. It can help assess your design's usability, clarity, comprehension, and more. This talk explains how your team can gather measurable user feedback in as little as a week, for even the very biggest of problems.
Become a Confluence Whiz Kid: Organized Spaces and Beautiful Pages
Many great achievements started with a page in Confluence. Still, users always ask us how to get started creating and organizing content. How you choose to organize content in Spaces and what your pages look like determines how effective your content is.
John Wetenhall, Confluence Whiz, is sharing top tips for Space organization and page creation from his 4 years working on Confluence and speaking to scores of users. He'll focus on Confluence's top use cases: project collaboration and knowledge bases, with hands on examples from Atlassian's own internal Confluence instances, so you know what great spaces and pages can look like, and how to actually create them.
How to Make a Difference in 24 Hours
Atlassian contributes 1% of annual profits, 1% of employee time, and 1% of company equity to the Atlassian Foundation, aimed at helping make the world better. In this talk, George Burrows shows how utilising Atlassian's products can make an impact for the Foundation in just one day.
Inspired by visits to Cambodian schools, seeing first hand how Room to Read are making a difference, a group of Atlassian's used a single ShipIt to create a web presence for their fundraising chapters. George will explain how the team used Hipchat, Confluence, Trello and Bitbucket to communicate, empower, and deliver the project.
Bundeswehr Blueprint: Collaboration in the German Military
It's true – even the Bundeswehr uses Confluence to organize their work. In fact, they use it for a great deal of their collaboration, coordination, and communication. But convincing the German Armed Forces to go digital with their knowledge base was no easy feat. In this talk, Nils Merkle, Air Force Captain, will recount how his team of Confluence evangelists promoted social collaboration in a hierarchical environment. Come hear Bundeswehr insights, use cases, and best practices that can help any organization maximize Confluence's potential. And, of course, some funny stories that came about along the way.
An Award-winning Digital Workplace and Intranet
To finally realize that ‘New Way of Working' we at the Belgian Port of Antwerp Authority set up “Our Magic Four".
Magic#1 is in the Atlassian tools - of course. Magic#2 is revealed in the use of a new, innovative work process - the "Collaborative Cases", the differentiator for efficient knowledge work. Magic#3 emerges in the Implementation Service Cycles, co-designed with the business partner. Magic#4 is our best kept secret that we can only reveal in person during the session…
The Belgian Green Party and other organizations heard about the success, and started with a similar set-up for their digital workplace and intranets – they love it! Our message: stop selling tools, start selling the process. Filip is available afterwards to answer your questions!
Exploring Atlassian's People Graph
Atlassian's mission is to unleash the potential in every team. In working toward this goal, it is critical we understand how teams interact, communicate, and collaborate. In this talk, Atlassian data scientist Geoff Sims will present our business' "people graph" - a network visualisation produced from our internal Hipchat message exchanges - as a colourful series of digital artworks. Come along to see how raw data can be transformed into something beautiful; and walk away with a better understanding of how teams operate.
