Even the most inspiring initiatives can get bogged down in the monotony of everyday tasks, like manually assigning work or sending passive-aggressive reminders to update a status. It’s everyone’s fantasy to cast aside that busywork and focus on the meaningful challenges we signed up for.

Today, we’re taking an exciting step in that direction, and are delighted to announce that we’re bringing automation natively into Jira Cloud.

Introducing automation in Jira

Atlassian acquires Code Barrel, maker of Automation for Jira

Since acquiring Automation for Jira in October 2019, we’ve been working hard to bring this powerful automation engine natively to all Jira Cloud customers. Here’s what you can expect from this powerful offering:

  • The native feature helps you and your team automate tedious, repetitive tasks so you can focus on high-value work.
  • Work can get messy. Lots of teams, lots of tools, lots of processes. Automation organizes all of this for you without adding workload or complexity.
  • It works across all Jira Cloud products but also integrates with tools like Slack and Microsoft Teams.
  • Using automation, DevOps practices flow neatly from code to production.
  • By automating processes that span DevOps and IT operations teams, this feature up-levels Jira Service Desk’s ITSM capabilities.

And, perhaps most importantly, it’s easy to use. You’ll have more power, without the complexity. According to a survey of existing Automation for Jira customers, more than half of people who have automated their work with Jira say it saves them more than six hours per month, and 87 percent say it helps them scale the way their organizations work.

Jira has always served teams as a single source of truth. Now, with automation working tirelessly in the background, your work will simply flow, allowing your team’s productivity to hit all-time highs.

Jira automation is indispensable. It saves my team a lot of time and building automations across all of our tools is simple and easy.

No code, just drag and drop

Automation is a “no-code” feature. Just drag and drop if-this-then-that rules together to automate your work, solving literally endless use cases without adding any complexity. Whether it’s auto-closing old issues, keeping your epics and stories in sync, or automating your entire release process across Jira, Bitbucket, and Slack, it only takes a few clicks. Here are some sample automation rule templates for common tasks:

The future of work

Automation is already an integral part of any forward-thinking business strategy; in tomorrow’s world, no business will be able to prosper without it. Having already added Butler for Trello and now Jira’s automation engine, we are building an automation platform that provides value today but also a platform for the future of work.

We envision a world where developers spend less of their valuable time in Jira (yes, really), and more time building valuable assets. Automation is now available out of the box to every user across the entire Jira Cloud family.

So tomorrow morning, as you sit down to start your day, take a step back and ask yourself: “What do I really want my team to invest their time in today? The future of work awaits.
