You may have heard that Atlassian’s family of team communication tools got a bit bigger today with the announcement of Stride, a new cloud team communication solution that empowers teams to talk less and do more. While there is a new addition to the cloud family, Hipchat Data Center (which we launched in June 2017) will continue to be Atlassian’s self-hosted team communication solution for enterprise teams who need to run self-hosted software in a highly regulated industry (such as healthcare or finance), have security and compliance requirements, or are a governmental agency. We’re doubling down our investment in Hipchat Data Center and continue to see solid growth with Fortune 500 companies.

In addition to providing increased scalability, high availability, and an improved experience for our administrators, Hipchat Data Center also has a new architecture that’s more similar to the rest of the Atlassian Data Center products. This was just our first step in the journey to a fully installable application. As we continue to focus on providing a scalable, modern messaging solution built for our self-hosted customers, we have many new exciting updates on the way!

Looking ahead

In the coming months, we will release new Hipchat Data Center applications for Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android. Built upon the latest technology, these applications will provide improved reliability and stability, especially for Windows. If you are interested in participating in our beta program, please sign up here.

With these new applications, we will also be providing new video and screen sharing functionality called Meetings and an improved UI. Meetings includes the same video and screen sharing capabilities you have today, plus remote control, audio only support, call out support, a chrome extension for your calendar, and much more!

And finally, something very important: improvements to notifications. You will have clear indicators where you have missed messages while you were away. In every room and 1:1 conversation you are a part of, you will be able to see when messages haven’t been read, the timestamp of the last message, and the number of mentions included. This will be consistent across all devices and your web browser. Follow this ticket for updates and look for these improvements later this year.

We will be holding a webinar in October so you can learn more about these improvements and the future of Hipchat Data Center. Look for an invite soon! To learn more about Stride’s launch, check out our FAQ.
