Out-of-the-box, JIRA's workflow is highly customisable* and meets most organisations' requirements. Using workflow extensions, JIRA's workflow can be customised even further, e.g.:
- Auto-assign issue using custom field — automatically assign a newly-created issue to a particular assignee, based on the value of a specified custom-field.
- Set security level based on group — automatically set the security level of a newly-created issue, based on the group membership of the person creating the issue.
- Create sub-task on transition — automatically create a sub-task when an issue transitions between particular steps of a workflow.
