FishEye
Features – Communicate
Source code communication — down to the line number.
Code collaboration made easy
FishEye's most powerful feature is its simplest — URLs. Every page in FishEye is a unique 'permalink', so you can refer to source knowing that the other person will see exactly what you see.
Avoid confusion, be precise
Unless the person you are communicating with is at your desk looking at your screen, it is hard to be sure that they will be looking at exactly what you are when considering your thoughts. Whether using email, instant messaging, a wiki, an issue tracker, or anything else — you can reference relevant source with a link to FishEye.
Going beyond linking to just a source file, you can link to specific:
- revisions
- diffs
- lines
- file histories
- directories
- changesets with inline diffs
- a changeset in the context of the changelog
- search results
- a source archive at a tag, a branch, or date in TAR, GZ, or ZIP format
- and more ... everything in FishEye is a link!
Customise
When sending a link, you can specify whether to display a diff or annotation with the receiver's visual preferences, or you can override the context, whitespace settings, variable expansion, and type of annotation. So you can make sure that everyone sees exactly the same view.
Live links
To make sure your recipient is looking at the latest and greatest version, choose a URL that always points to the most recent version of your file.
Usage example: A developer needs to post a link on the intranet that always points to the latest README (even though the README is updated frequently). Instead of linking to a specific version, he posts a link to FishEye's 'Latest' version of the file.
You can also use the dynamic charts and graphs from FishEye in your webpages, again being sure that the latest data will always be displayed.
Live downloads
Create a link to a TAR or ZIP archive of a whole directory tree. Again, your recipient will be guaranteed of receiving the very latest contents when they download.
This enables occasional users to easily access the latest contents of a directory tree, without having to use a command line or set up an SCM client.
Take communication to the next level
Taking FishEye's communication capabilities even further, you can use Crucible to benefit from structured code review and in-line commenting.
