License categories
Crucible licensing falls into a number of broad categories:

New licenses
We believe the Crucible licensing scheme is simple, upfront and equitable. Our software licenses entitle you to perpetual use, and include 12 months maintenance (updates/support) commencing from the date of purchase. Renewing maintenance is entirely optional.
A Crucible license must be purchased with or in addition to a FishEye license. The number of licensed Crucible users cannot be greater than the number of licensed FishEye users.
For existing FishEye license holders, the maintenance period of your existing FishEye software maintenance will be synchronised with the Crucible license accordingly. Please contact us to learn more about your maintenance synchronisation date.

License upgrades
Licensees can upgrade to a Workgroup, Enterprise or Unlimited license at any time. All data is seamlessly upgraded. Upgrades include 12 months of software maintenance.
A Crucible license upgrade must be purchased with an equivalent FishEye license upgrade.

Software maintenance (support & updates)
All non-free licenses come with 12 months of software maintenance (support and product updates). Beyond this initial 12 month period, you may renew your software maintenance for a further 12 months at our discounted renewal prices.

The software maintenance of a Crucible license must be renewed with an equivalent FishEye license software maintenance renewal.

Community & Open Source licenses
Community
Crucible is free for use by official non-profit organisations and charities (proof of non-profit status is required). There are certain organisations whose purpose is to make the world a better place, and we believe in helping them achieve that.
Community licenses are designed for organisations which are:
- non-profit,
- non-government,
- non-academic,
- non-commercial,
- non-political and
- secular
in nature, that would not otherwise be able to afford Crucible. If your organisation is philanthropic in nature then you probably qualify.
Open Source
Atlassian supports and believes in the Open Source movement — Crucible utilises a number of good Open Source components, and Atlassian developers are committers on a large number of Open Source projects.
To give back to the open source community (and hopefully improve the quality of those projects!), Crucible is free for any Open Source project to use.
There are a few requirements for an Open Source license, the main ones being:
- Established code base
- Publicly available project website
- Using an approved open source license
- Your Crucible instance will be publicly accessible
Licensing terms
A Crucible commercial/academic license entitles you to:
- Deploy a single instance of Crucible in a production environment accessible by the number of users licensed
- Perpetual Crucible use
- Software maintenance for 12 months — including all updates and online support (from Sydney, Australia and San Francisco, USA during local business hours)
- JSP source code (under a developer source license which allows for broad customisation)
A Crucible license must be purchased with or in addition to an equivalent FishEye license.
Licensing fees are quoted per total number of 'Crucible users'. A Crucible user is by definition any user account in the Crucible system with the 'use' permission, i.e. anyone who can view the site while logged in. Unlimited 'anonymous users' are permitted on all licenses.
