Complete Office supportSet your Microsoft Office content free
If you're like most organisations, much of your information is stuck inside Microsoft Office documents scattered throughout the enterprise. Confluence frees the content inside your Office documents by making them instantly viewable, editable, and searchable from a web-based repository.
Microsoft Word on steroids
Confluence combines the familiarity of Microsoft Office with the collaborative features of an enterprise wiki.
- Convert existing Word documents. Confluence lets you import Word and .ODT files directly as new pages while preserving their formatting and embedded images. Large documents can even be broken up into multiple pages.
- Edit pages inside Microsoft Word. This is particularly useful to users accustomed to Microsoft Office. When they save the page, the changes are made back to Confluence where they benefit from core features like the following:
- Track page history and view a highly granular change analysis between each page version. This is critical when multiple users edit the content. Users can easily revert back to a previous version if needed.
- Hold a conversation around the edits with threaded comments. Comments enable a full palette of formatting options to build multi-dimensional feedback.
- Secure your content. Page level restrictions assure that the creator has complete control of which users can view and participate in the content editing.
Unlock your organisation's knowledge
Confluence makes the information inside your Office documents instantly available and searchable for others to benefit from. Using drag-and-drop simplicity, users can import documents, presentations, spreadsheets and even PDFs directly into Confluence.
- Make your documents searchable online by uploading them to Confluence. Users can even search on the content inside your documents like a specific number in an Excel spreadsheet or a phrase inside Word document.
- See inside your documents by clicking 'view' from either the search results page, attachments details page, or anywhere you see a list of attachments.
- See who did what to your documents. All attached documents are fully versioned, with comments by their author, showing you when files were attached, by whom and for what purpose.
- Navigate attached documents from a WebDAV client such as 'My Network Places' in Microsoft Windows. This makes Confluence more familiar to people used to working in network drives.
It just works...
Confluence sweats the details of the Office integration so that for users, everything just works regardless of what kind of software they have installed on their desktop.
- Confluence supports both Office 2003 and 2007 so users can import, view or edit content without complications. For users who don't have Office installed, they can view and interact with the content using Confluence's native Office viewer.
- Embed your Microsoft Office files directly inside your Confluence pages where you can display their contents. Display your PowerPoint presentations and PDFs in presentation mode. Choose which cells and charts of your Excel spreadsheet to display. Or display an entire Word document in its completed, unaltered state.
- View content deep within a file with the view content feature. Whenever a file shows up in a search result or on an attachment page, users click 'view' and the file content will display. Even better, you don't need to launch Office or have it installed to view the content.
The Office Connector really ramped up our adoption of the wiki across the company. Those not familiar with wiki editing now have a much simpler way to publish and edit the wiki through Microsoft Office. —Steve Dantzer, Sybase
