This is a unique role within Atlassian, where your main responsibility will be to set up a new team and mould them into a kick-ass high performing group. Your team will be distributed across two locations and you will be responsible for that team's work from start to finish. You will report to the Confluence engineering manager and work closely with the Confluence product managers to identify opportunities for your team to contribute to Atlassian's collaboration tools.

What you’ll do

  • Establish a high-performance distributed team for building and enhancing our products
  • Lead a distributed team of 5–10 developers and senior developers across two locations (Sydney and an office in Asia)
  • Plan releases and iterations for your team and work with them to hit these goals
  • Provide technical leadership for your team and establish a high quality bar for everything they do
  • Identify and implement changes to allow your team to work better with people in other locations.

Who we are looking for

  • Five or more years in a professional software development role
  • Demonstrated experience leading small- to medium-sized teams, with examples of successful and failed projects
  • Ability to break down tasks and plan work for several people
  • Understanding of the architecture of web applications and the technologies used to build them
  • Ability to mentor junior and senior developers and find ways to challenge them in their work
  • Experience leading distributed teams (preferred, but not essential).
