Press Release Dev Tools Squared: Atlassian Acquires Cenqua

Combination will create better tools for global software developers

San Francisco, CA (Business Wire) August 1, 2007 — Atlassian today announced the acquisition of Cenqua, a supplier of market-leading software engineering tools Clover, FishEye, and Crucible. This acquisition combines two of the fastest growing producers of software development tools.

The combined company will focus on providing a more comprehensive, integrated experience for software developers that rely on these tools. Cenqua's 2,000 customers will see faster development of Clover, FishEye, and Crucible, and will gain access to Atlassian's developer network and worldwide technical support facilities.

Atlassian and Cenqua already share hundreds of the same global customers, including:

  • Fortune 500: BP, DaimlerChrysler, GE, NEC, Sony
  • Technology: Adobe, EMC, Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard
  • Banking and Finance: Credit Suisse, E*trade
  • Pharmaceutical and Healthcare: GlaxoSmitheKline, Cochlear, Novartis, Pfizer
  • Consulting: Accenture, Thoughtworks

"I'm thrilled to announce this deal. We're gaining a fantastic set of products and adding some of the most innovative software development minds to our engineering department." said Mike Cannon-Brookes, co-founder and CEO at Atlassian. "Cenqua's products are a fantastic complement to Atlassian's, and the combination makes possible whole new realms of functionality for our customers."

Peter Moore, co-founder and CEO at Cenqua added, "We're really excited to be joining the Atlassian team. It's an awesome match that allows us to take our products further and apply Atlassian's global resources to product development and support."

Cenqua adds source code insight, code review, and software quality analysis to Atlassian's issue tracking, wiki, and continuous integration tools. Clover, FishEye and Crucible will remain separate products and retain the same development team. Starting today, customers can purchase Cenqua products and get support through http://www.atlassian.com.

New Atlassian Product Line Up

  • JIRA gives users insight into the number of open issues, bugs and tasks associated with every project, including the rate at which these issues are resolved, how many issues are resolved, progress made on product roadmaps, and more.
  • Bamboo offers what Atlassian calls Build Telemetry, the ability to monitor and track automated software builds. It helps teams determine which builds break, the frequency at which builds succeed or fail, what tests are working, and more.
  • FishEye makes it painlessly easy to view a source code repository to help you better understand your changing source.
  • Crucible makes it easy to review code changes, make comments, and record outcomes in an efficient, distributed, and process neutral way.
  • Clover is a powerful and highly configurable code coverage analysis tool that discovers sections of code that are not being adequately exercised by unit tests. Developers and Team leads use Clover to quickly find untested java code and measure testing completeness. This feeds back into the testing process to improve tests.
  • Confluence is used by developers for documentation, product roadmaps and planning, and more.
  • Crowd will allow for single sign-on across all these products, as well as 3rd party development tools such as Subversion.
