Also, to your response to Jana, I completely agree on the adaption of the process and tools to particular circumstances. We had a similar problem with different levels of backlogs. Part of what stalled previous undertakings was that despite having good software like Confluence, their varied systems were segregated. Inadvertently constructing more silos out of multiple enterprise 2.0 platforms creates more problems than you ever had before.

One additional piece of software that helped them successfully integrate the two companies was Atlassian Pty (Sydney, Australia) Confluence enterprise wiki software. Since Invitrogen and Applied Biosystems had their own computer networks, Life Technologies created an internal site based on Confluence to act as a central communication point for projects that went between the two firms.
"We were able to leverage that globally for use by 10,000 people," said Frost. "We would not have had nearly the result we achieved without it."
